I have a '22 2500 Big Horn that was a rental truck, The USB ports on the Uconnect 5.5 are not enabled, they will charge my Ipod but that is all. How do I get them to work, I would like to hook up my Ipod again?

Not all USB ports are connected to the radio and are meant to be charge only. Only the ones in the Center console with the USB symbol (looks like a sideways trident) connect to the radio. That symbol denotes data transfer. If it has a lightning bolt or a battery on it (or even text that says something like 12v) it's power only.

And all this time, I was under the impression that USB voltage is 5V DC.

Not sure what actually is supplied at the USB port. I was merely denoting the purpose and markings on the ports.

Yeah, I was interested myself and tried seeing the specs but found nothing. I'm pretty sure it's wired to the same circuit as the dash/center console 12v cigar lighter plug but don't no if there is something internal to the USB port itself that outputs 5v DC. I'm not too up to snuff on the specs for USB, but I'd think the charge only ports don't even necessarily have to meet the spec'd requirements for USB 2.0/3.0/3.1 etc because they are not carrying data (am I completely wrong in that logic?)...The beginning of this article summarizes the basics of the USB 2.0/3.0/3.1 and USB-C/USB-C(PD).

I poked around online looking for a simple listing of the various USB types and specs but wasn't too impressed after reading 6 or 7 articles.
Sure, many of them presented the specs but I found too many contradictions in the presentations that would make it confusing unless you already understand those details.
The link I posted above had what I was looking for, a simple chart showing the data rate and power specs for the different types.
And yes, all USB ports have to meet the spec for both power and data transfer rate.
The most common voltage used is 5VDC with some of the fast chargers using up to 20VDC.
Although I've read USB-PD is capable of 12VDC, that's not the usual voltage used.
The power-only USB port in the console of my truck appears to charge much faster than several of the household chargers I have but that is subjective.

Was your ipod working previously or is this the first time you are trying to use it? I ask because I was looking to connect mine and I dont think the radios support ipod playback over usb anymore. I don't think there is an issue with your usb ports, I just dont think the radio supports the ipod anymore.

Specifically, how old is the iPod device and have you used it successfully with a recent model of a Ram Uconnect radio?

Trying to find that answer online was some effort, maybe I'm having an off day with my google-foo. BTW, I never use google.
To make a long story short, some of the legacy iPod devices that use iAP1 are no longer supported. iAP1 aka 'interface accessory protocol' is no longer supported by apple.
It has been replaced with iAP2.
As far as I can determine, support for iAP1 was discontinued sometime in 2018 but may have continued to function on older Uconnect radios before they were updated.
This is another example of why performing unnecessary updates can create grief.
If its not broke, don't try to fix it!

I appreciate the technical response. I still have an old Ipod video that was modified to use sd cards so it still works great, but not finding much anymore that it can connect to via USB.Welcome to Ram Forum.

If your ipod uses the older legacy iAP1 protocol, I expect your easiest interface solution to be line-level audio when connecting to any newer or updated device.

I am having the same issue. The port I am using is in the top console closest to the driver. The others just charge. I use my phone and have not tried a regular usb drive yet. But when I use my phone via usb for music, it says device not playable. I do "allow" it to use or see the data with no success. I can use it via bluetooth with no problem. I just fixed the power port in the lower part of the center console. It was just a blown fuse.
