I was told the other day that 6.7 cummins need to have their valves lashed at 70k miles or so.

Is this a thing, or was he tryin to get more money out of me?
I know down the line, it's a thing , but 70k

I thought it was around 100k or something, but I'm just a vicarious Cummins guy. I've seen it done many times, doesn't look to be a big job.

I'm thinking it's even farther then that . I'm sure you could look up a service manual.

So you go into the shop and the service manager looks at you and says: you look like you could use a good valve lashing.....

As a Chrysler Technician and a Cummins owner I set my valve lash every 75,000 miles and I recommend it to my customers every 100,000 miles.

Yeah man. When you get ready to set the valve lash there is an easy way to take your measurements and set the lash.

Rotate the crankshaft damper so the TDC mark, or Top Dead Center mark, is in the 12:00 o'clock position. With the engine in this position you can measure and set:

Intake 1-2-4

Exhaust 1-3-5

Then, rotate the crankshaft 360° or one full revolution and align the TDC mark at the 12:00 o'clock position again. Now you can measure and set:

Intake 3-5-6

Exhaust 2-4-6

The valve lash chart for your motor is on the left side of the rocker cover. It is recommended that the valve lash be set when the engine temp is below 140°. If you cannot read the valve lash on the label then here are the specs:

Intake Minimum: .006"
Intake Maximum: .015"

Exhaust Minimum: .015"
Exhaust Maximum: .030"
