I saw a picture on here of one that had gotten mud up in the top and ran into the throttle body, so I went with the S and B. I drive alot on muddy roads and splash thru puddles alot so I wanted the extra protection. But I was really wanting the Vararam for the performance. If you don't mud or go down lease roads like me then you will probably love it. My engines in all my trucks have always periodically gotten mud on top.

I have the vararam, i havent noticed alot of difference to be honest, im just told its supposed to be better haha. it looks cool and frees up space where the stock airbox is if you want to put something else in there like a second battery or something.

ive gone through good amounts of mud and ive never seen mud in there. just a few bugs sitting around it haha

painted up she looks pretty cool

I think that pic I saw was due to the seal where it meets the hood or the hood heat shield/liner being worn from back and forth motion. I think. I am blonde, so.........

maybe that guy drives like me! haha. I really wanted the vararam, but was swayed by his pic. He could have been really getting crazy ya know. I was not knockin the vararam at all. That is a good point. It would def be a good choice for someone who wants to add a second battery for stereo etc.

The guy that posted that pic has a body lift which created a gap between the airbox and the hood liner. Combine that with driving through deep muddy water, and the end result is the pictures you guys saw. When used with the proper coupler, the filter is sealed correctly just like 4x4Hemi's kit.

Also, 4x4Hemi, try taking the intake off and going back to stock...then let us know if you feel the difference. It is easy to get "used" to the extra power, and you dont realize it until it is gone. I have seen trucks drop between .2 and .4 off their 1/4 mile times with just the Vararam as their only mod. Those kind of gains are very hard to come by with just an intake.

Your S&B kit is a very close 2nd on performance, so I dont think you should have any regrets on that one. Both kits are top notch.

Oh I love it no doubt. I still think I'm going to order an oiled filter from you, even tho this paper one should last a while. I am wondering if the oiled filter with the filter wrap will breathe as good as the paper one without the wrap? That way I can run the wrap and still not lose any airflow. I swear I can tell a difference when it's on.

already removed the stock airbox mount :( but i can see that you could start just getting used to it. the truck sure pulls at higher speeds, i know that for sure. i find it really excells when your going like 50mph+, could just be me though haha

honestly i never did notice much difference, i put on bigger tires too soon after the intake switch to get some consistent calculations :/, sorry :happy160:

We are only 30 minutes from Vararam's shop, and I have spoken to them directly about the mud pics. That is the only case they have seen with anything like that, and they even made a new longer coupler and some other water/mud deterents for that member's truck. He now has a custom 1 off Vararam that should allow him to blast through the swamp without any trouble. It is not something that the everyday driver should be concerned with though as that is the only case of that happening.

I get this alot from the guys that upgrade from the 85mm to the 87mm throttle bodies. They dont realize just how much of a difference the part makes until they have to throw the stock one back on.
