I have been thinking about getting the S&B but sounds like a lot of people have troubles with it, or install and don't like it. So I have been looking at the vararam but my question, is anyone useing them that drives in the winter have you had any problems with it? Also I take my truck to car wash once a week and it sprays right in the grill area would it happen to suck in water at all?

It shouldnt bother it one bit, the water would have to go up the air feed ramp then flow up the slightly uphill grade of the filter platform to even get there. Then on top of that its an oiled filter which should keep any water, IF it even gets there, out. Im in upstate NY and we get plenty of rain and snow here and I have no doubts about running it year round. FWIW I installed mine and then it poured for almost 2 weeks straight every day and most of the time it was torrential downpours. Lots of flooding and laying water and no break in the moisture and the Vararam didnt have one hiccup. I highly recommend it!

If you drive in heavy snow, you may see some light snow buildup around the front of the filter, but it will not have any negative impact on the truck or its performance. As long as you aren't driving through 3-4' of water, you wont have any trouble.

Vararam is definitely worth it, noticed a good difference between that and the previous intake system.

I've had my truck washed several times since I got my VR and have never had a problem. I'm absolutely in love with it. I highly recommend the VR unless you plan on doing alot of offroading, then go with the S&B.

Sorry I missed your past post...I have had mine for about a month now. Maybe a little more. And haven't cleaned it yet and I haven't had any problems.

For the people who have the vararam intake, did any of you gain any mpg's? I realize in everyday driving you wouldn't be able to stay out of it long enough to gain anything. I'm just looking for highway gains mostly.

Being honest, I didn't notice anything, no mpg or hp from the seat, but it looks good when you raise the hood.. I won mine from bully performance, so I may be trading it to try something else out without feeling to bad

I've only have my Vararam for over a month, but I've put about 4,500 miles on it (yea, I drive way too much). What I've figured out is that city miles, the VR isn't gonna help you out at all. But I made a trip from MD to NC last month and averaged almost 20mpg's. I don't think I could have gotten that with a stock truck.

I'm just incredibly impressed that I could get that (19.5 was the actual number) out of a Hemi. The VR definitely helps a little, unless you're only doing city driving. If you do a lot of highway, I believe it helps a lot.

Edit for you: I did notice a difference in acceleration when I got my VR. Nothing crazy, but the truck does take off better with it.
