Okay all, I have kind of an odd thing going on that started recently. While driving my truck at highway speed (70 +/- MPH) I can feel a slight vibration in the steering wheel. At first, I just attributed this to the somewhat rough highways out here, but the frequency of the vibrations seems too fast for that. The vibrations are especially strong through my transfer case shifter.

When I bought the truck, the tie rods and track bar were replaced and the truck feels very steady even post 80 MPH. The front end doesn't shake or shimmy at all. Just these light but frequent vibrations.

I crawled underneath my truck this morning and could not find any indication that the issue is related to the u-joints. All u-joints are dry with no slop. Last month I had a set of 4 new tires installed from the local Theisens and this little problem was not present prior to this.

I was told from a few people NOT to let the paid-just-slightly-more-than-minimum-wage Theisens guys mount/balance my tires, but it was the only way they would honor their "buy 3 get 1 free" Cooper tire special (which in the end WAS a very good deal).

Should I head to a more reputed tire shop to have my wheel balance checked? I really don't know where else to start...

I would say more than likely it is a tire balance issue. That is where I would start. Also if you already paid someone to do a job why not go back and have them rebalance them before paying someone else?

Sounds like a balance issue for sure. Could also be alignment?

My money is on tire balance too. Have you tried rotating the tires to see if the vibration location changes?
