Curious if there are any ProCharged California 4th gens on the forum... If so, any idea how smog tests will go? Is the money really worth it or just more of a can of worms? Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Hey Mud. I have a ProCharger on my Mustang. The ProCharger works well in that application. I don't know what part of California you are in. But the drivers out there get with the program.

I'm pretty sure if you keep your factory cats, you'll be fine. Check with ProCharger for the definitive answer.

What rear end gears do you have?

Procharger shows an EO number, D-365-9 2009 thorugh 2014 RAM 1500 5.7
We know is the same engine in your 2016 but contact them to make sure as you better believe that won't matter if you have to go through an Star inspection and that EO doesn't have your year model, engine etc., which seems to be the case

You could try Whipple, EO# D231-51, and they show 2002-2018 RAM 1500 (call them for details as i don't know how you'll deal with the PCM portion)

Hey I'd, I just noticed you're from Northern California. I was up there a few weeks ago. Crescent City, Jedediah Smith. Is Humbolt county as wild as Murder Mountain makes it out to be? There's a whole lot of nothing up there

Is your truck a 2 WD, 8 speed? What size tires?

Mud, just went through something similar. This might be helpful. My smog guy is a star station. He has been smoging our vehicles for years. Two part smog certification under new Ca 2017 rules.
1. Check for any modification or change of factory parts. Any modification/change must be CARB approved and have CARB cert number sticker. Cert number must be checked to insure that mod/change part is application specific to that vehicle as equipped. If step 1 fails, stop smog cert. Tell owner to correct.
2. New State software now checks the EPM, EMS etc for out of spec data. Can not tell you exactly how that works. But it is pretty sophisticated.
Having said all that. I have seen over the years smog legal vehicles that they pass that are modified. So changes, upgrades can be made if approved.
When I replaced the factory CAI on my 03 1500 5.7. I took the CARB number that the manufacture provided to verify that it was still CARB approved.
When I replaced the factory valve covers on my Grand National. Had to show that I did not modify or change any factory smog parts. Since my tech did not know what he should be looking for, he asked me to bring down the factory valve covers to confirm.
My ****** exhaust is not CARB legal "today" Because it was legal back in 2004 and the vehicle has passed every year since, we are gtg.

Haven’t been up in the Humbolt area so I’m not sure... We are up Hwy 80 a hour from Lake Tahoe. Trucks a 4wd 8spd on 34s

Gotcha, ya I’m pretty sure that Procharger has smog cert for Cali but I’m thinking along the lines of needing custom tuning, injectors and what not... Probably just need to go straight to the source for the info. Curious if anyone has been running one for a considerable length of time. Don’t want to dump $8-10k and regret it within a year

Mud, why not ask guys who have the same set up as you, how their truck responded to being regeared?

I think you have plenty of power now, you're just at a huge disadvantage leverage wise. 3.21s are too tall, plus you have those huge tires.

Worth a look.

Hey Mud. I'm pretty close to you and I'm getting a Procharger soon. I'm actually ordering it tomorrow. It'll be a month or two before I actually install it because I want to get my new hood put on first.
After I get it set up I'll post all about it and you can ask any questions then and possibly come check it out in person.

I'd ask guys who have regeared. Yeah, I know, the 8 speed cures cancer. But there's nothing better than mechanical advantage. No worries about passing SMOG inspection.
