Does anyone spray off the engine at the car wash or is that a no no with all the electronic components? My last new truck was a 1995 f250 and I would wash the engine but I know this engine is a whole different ballgame.

Are you trying to clean and dress the plastic pieces? Does the engine have oil leaks?

May I suggest you pose this question in the Autogeek forum. You have at your disposal a plethora of information about detailing your engine and your whole truck

I wouldn't spray it when it's hot and I wouldn't use a pressure washer, but that's just me.

When I was a kid I worked at Mr Lube in the pit and we pressure washed all the engines from the bottom to ensure there was no oil left on any part of the vehicle that would potentially drip on the owners driveway. It never hurt anything.

Every week mine gets hosed off under the hood and body at the car wash, never had any issues yet, don't focus on the alternator for any period of time, but I still hit it a bit with the hose.I sure as hell don't park it if I get caught in a rainstorm, not a hell've lot of difference between driving in a hard rainstorm or washing it at the carwash, especially if the clutch fan is still on the engine, lol.

There was a long discussion about this in the detail section some time ago. You might take a look there for the information that was shared. Short answer--simple green, light spray with hose, dry completely with either towels or air gun then use https://www.autopia-carcare.com/son-720.html#.XhTT80dKiyI.

Every wash I spray it down and simple green it. Never an issue

+2 Few years ago i learned this, i Bought the "Engine cleaner" at the auto parts store which i think was designed to sell more engine cleaner because it left a film of oil i guess few days later engine covered in dust. Started using simple green. No dust for a long time.

I have done it for years with many different makes and models of vehicles I've owned. Only problem I ever had was with my 64 bug because I got water in the distributor and it basically shorted my points together. A little WD40 and was back at it. Otherwise never an issue and I do it probably monthly. Like others said, just spray a little simple green on the dirty stuff and gently powerspray or hose it off.

I have always "rinsed" my engines with a garden hose (cold engine) then left the hood open for a while for it to dry out.
Haven't done the hemi yet but I will when it gets dusty enough.
I'll use simple green or Bleche white or similar if necessary.

If you try that with a Ford you will have problems with the coils. It appears to be okay with this motor.

I get mine rust proofed all the time so it’s basically caked on crude at this point.

There are great videos on YouTube about how to and what to use [emoji106]
