So we were on a road trip driving in the rain and my son noticed some water dripping in from above his shoulder closest to the seat belt. I put some sealant on the rear window thinking it may have been coming in from there but it still leaks. Any ideas?

Check the seal on the third brake light...most common area for that leak

Almost certainly the infamous 3rd brake light leak. If this is in regards to the 2014 in your info, it's a miracle the seal around that light lasted this long. Tons of threads and the proper DIY fix here on this site.

Get a new seal.

My experiences have taught me silicone isnt always a permanent solution.

I used closed cell weather strip with success and have a backup from Detroit muscle.

Both do not appear to be an impermiable material like OEM.
