Have 2017 bighorn with 5.7. Hauling weights is about 1400 if I remember from reading the sticker. Is it safe to haul one ton once in a while for 20 miles? Or will I bottom out the suspension?

Would you be able to? Yes

Will it be safe? Eh not really

You "likely" wouldn't do any damage to the truck, but better be praying that no other idiot pulls out in front of you.

FWIW, I've had about 1500lbs of stone/bricks in my bighorn (around 1400lb payload as well) without issue. Truck barely sagged, but I had it loaded as far forward as possible to distribute weight to both axles as much as possible.

Why push it, rent a trailer, dump one if you can just let material slide off. Payload maximum includes added weight from fuel, people, aftermarket accessories, etc. That adds up real fast. Keep your truck looking and working in great shape.

I've hauled 2400 lbs of payload in the bed twice now. First time the truck was riding on bumpstops with original springs/coils. Second time I had 1000HD AirlLift bags installed and had a 3 inch drop, truck was sitting level, with rear coils that gave a 2 inch drop (was more like 1.75 inch drop). 1400 lbs should be okay, as long as you take caution in how you drive.
