Weird 4WD Problem While Jacking

So while had the truck up in the air working on the rockers I noticed when the drivers side was on 24" stands that fluid, grease I guess, was dripping out of what I think is the CV shaft. The part that goes from the front differential (I think) to the wheel. Part of the 4WD. Didn't do it when had the passenger side raised and it doesn't leak when level. Don't know if it matters, but PO said truck has a 2" lift kit. Should I be concerned? I don't expect to take it off road much if any. Should I replace what leaked out, about a 10" puddle? If so is there a plug for adding and what kinda grease do I need to get? Got standard 85/90 wt already. Attaching a pic showing the area where the parts meet that are doing the leaking.

Also have a rip in one of those rubber boots. Can I repair it? Is it hard to change?

There should be a fill point, also used to check fluid level, somewhere on the front differential. Correct fluid should be in your manual, or a little googling should tell you.
If it leaks past the seal, it will need repaired sooner or later. Remember if fluid can get out contaminants, ie; water, can get in.
Real pain to replace boots, usually shaft needs replaced if boot is torn.

Yeah, it's probably low on lube, I agree, check it.

More than likely either what came out was some accumulated oil, or you have a bad seal over there on the disconnect side. There are a bunch of videos showing how to change.

When you have a wheel up off the ground (unloaded), crawl under and lift up/down on the inner CV's. It's not unusual to have some 'play' on them, but your truck being lifted might have too much and letting gear lube past. You would want to correct that if that's the case.

Not too sound cheap or lazy, but the torn boot can't be repaired without pulling everything apart? Sure would be nice to just slap a tire patch on it or something....LOL Thanks for the replies. This site is a God-send to a die-hard GM guy who hasn't had a Mopar in many years.

When you jack something up you have a ton of weight pulling on everything, you could take off tires and support axle next time. If you don't hear clicking yet you can try shooting some grease in the boot and using something like alien tape on it, and yes you need to take apart the front end to replace that item. The axle is cheap the labor was about 2-2.5 hours if memory serves me well. The have alien tape in large sizes, like 6 or 8 inches thick, make sure surface is grease free.

Yeah this would be better, Good post. These are split so the can cover crack, then they have clamps. Worth a shot. To actually repair as in replace a boot, it needs to be pulled apart, no small job.
