Well had the screen of death happen today.

Came out of the grocery store and hopped up into the truck. Started her up and lo and behold the screen was white. Could hear music and could change things via my steering wheel but that was it. Drove home with the thought of contacting dealership. Of course when I went out to drop off the truck, all was good. I’ll keep an eye out and report as I see . Also this is the basic 8.4 radio with no U connect nor Navi.

Man, this is the only thing keeping me from getting a new HD when they come out.

Well sadly I expected there to be some glitches if I went with all high end add ons, but I purposely went basic as to avoid these things lol.

Is this common with these trucks? This is now my third 8.4 Uconnect and I’ve never had these issues in almost 8 years. I’d be very upset if I ran into this.

The thing is the 8.4 screen isn’t new, just a carry over from prior years lol.

The Uconnect system is the highest rated and most reliable system on the market. It’s been around for a decade and a half.

On my 2008 challenger srt I would have the screen lock up a few times a year and have to disconnect the battery and then everything would work fine. On 4 ram pickups since 2009 I have never had one problem with the uconnect system. My 2015 Hellcat has never had a problem with the uconnect. It is a pretty good system IMO. I like it better than my MB S550 system.

Even if you had gone cheaper (5" screen), you still run the risk of glitches. Even mine is having hiccups.

As DrkNESS said, the 8.4 & 5.0 systems are pretty much carryover radio systems. The 12" is the new transistor on the block. Warranty or not, it doesn't make sense for these problems to be happening & is irritating when they do happen.

Now of course as hard as I try to replicate it, nothing. I’m still going to take it to the dealership and make them aware and document that it did indeed happen.

Mine has done it twice. Both times it has come back on with no issue after letting it sit for 10 minutes or so.

I also have noticed a faint burning smell when cranking the volume up. Thought it was the amp, dealership thinks it is from the stereo itself. I suppose it is possible and the issues are related. They ordered a new one and it will be about a week or so.
