You're right. I just tend to shy away from using white lithium because back in the day when I was kind of an idiot, I sprayed that stuff HEAVY everywhere there was a moving part. To this day, I'm still dealing with dirty goop on my door hardware because of that. I've thought about nuking the stuff with degreaser, but I don't want to thrash the paint in the process. I'm thinking Simple Green is supposed to work well, and if it'll sheer the gunk without frigging up the paint, I might try it next week.

Ordered new wires and a new thermostat for the truck. Should be here Friday. Basslicks' post reminded me of something I thought was odd but didn't do anything about. When I did the Plenum work to my truck I noticed the thermostat was 180F. I shrugged it off thinking maybe Dodge had a reason for using that thermostat. After doing the Plenum on my bro-in-law's 98 Durango I noticed his has a 195F thermostat. Then I saw Basslicks' post and immediately realized that I've been chasing an issue in the wrong area. My truck's ECM says that the engine is at 177F after fully warmed up. This would explain my rich running truck and 10MPG on the highway hopefully.

I'll be running Taylor Cable 74676 Spiro-Pro Blue Spark Plug Wires and a MotoRad 7200-195 Fail-Safe Thermostat.

The MotoRad thermostat is a pretty amusing coincidence it just had a lot of good reviews.

Hopefully these come in Friday like they're supposed to. I'm going to watch the new Godzilla movie in Austin at the Brew House Saturday and I'm wanting this baby running strong for that trip. :D

Wow! Good thing you were able to spot it on the backside of the tire before you might have been going down the highway.

Yup... sure have....

Weirdest thing, Ive seen a lot of tires over my years but never on the sidewall, I popped the bubble and the tire still hold air!

Truth be told my fiance noticed it about a week ago, but I didnt look from behind the truck, I looked at the tread and it seemed fine so kept driving!

That odd vibration is gone now! To think I towed quite a few tires on that bad tire!

Today I replaced the Thermostat with a 195F Thermostat and replaced the water outlet. The factory one was spotless where the mating surface was but it had pits. Considering it's cast aluminum I didn't want to take any chances in it pitting further or leaking so I just replaced it.

Finally finished painting the wheels and got a steal on a used set of 4 Toyo Open Country's. 200 bucks mounted and balanced with a really good amount of treadlife left. These things ride like a cloud!

Hard to tell from the pic, but the tread depth is at 8/32nds from the factory 16/32nds... so about half life left.

lol.... lucky guy! It might hold air right now, but I'll bet it'll be flat in a week.

Yeah those housings are cheap anyway. No reason not to replace it when you do the stat.

Yup, next up is replacing both the ECM and the Dash Temp sensor. The Computer thinks the truck is 188F and the Dash thinks it's 215F. That's what I get for buying those from a parts store.

Edit: Actually I think I have the factory ones that I thought were bad still....

That's the sucky thing about having them separate. Sender is good and gauge is good, so you think everything's good to go.... meanwhile, the sensor is saying something completely different, so the ECU is being told one thing while you're being told something completely different.

Went through that with my Jeep, it was annoying AF.

Love em. Best tires I've had. Im pretty overgeared and spin happy with 4.56s and a TrueTrack and i have no issues in western Iowa

Awesome! Hey, since you mentioned the TruTrac, do you have any experience with the Trac-Lok (oem chrysler LSD)? I had one in my Chrysler 8.25 on my XJ. People SWORE up and down that it would be useless with 33's, but I had 33" mud tires on the Jeep and it did great in sand and mud. Obviously it wasn't much good in the rocks, but that's not what LSDs are for anyway.

Just wondering if a Trac-Lok in the 9.25 would do well behind the 5.2 with 3.92 gears and 32 or 33" tires. Currently have 3.55 gears with the 32s.

Trac Loks are great...:anitoof:

...until the clutch packs start to break down, and the spring clips break. This floods your oil with metal. Eventually it works it's way through the carrier and pinion bearings...

Too bad there isn't something like proper maintenance that could prevent that from happening.

Even with that, they don't have the most outstanding service life. Not saying they're bad by any means but I'm definitely glad i went with my truetrack instead of swapping an ORE axle set

Yeah no comparison to TruTrac by any means, but I just didn't know if you had personal experience with them on these trucks. I'll probably just spend the couple hundred extra and go with the TruTrac though. Seen people rock crawl with them and that's saying a lot for an LSD unit.
