Truck says manufactured 09/01 on the door , my sons. running above normal temp.. going to replace water pump ,hoses, thrmostat , battery, battery cables , change fluids , tires . he wants to take it on a road trip up to west virginia

ah i think its a 3rd gen. if it has a 4.7 in it. it would be an early 2002.

Yea it's an early production 3rd gen Ram. Hopefully one of your listed repairs will solve the issue.

Yes it should be a 3rd gen easiest way is to look at front clip.
