What is the best Hemi V8 model year?

So, what is the best, most reliable, model year for the RAM 1500 and RAM 2500 HEMI 5.7 V8, between the years of 2017 and 2024? I need a new truck (the lifters in my #3 cylinder failed [hemi-tick] and the stealership said it would cost more the $12500 [total with all parts, service fee, etc. would have been closer to $18,000 - on a 2017 that was only worth $25,000 when it was in running). I'm looking for something used - preferably in the Limited edition.

How many miles on that '17 ?

I will say the 2022 model year was the last year you could get a 5th Gen 1500 DT 5.7L v8 without the eTorque junk. (May come back as an option in 2027?)

The 4th Gen 2013-18 and 19-24 classic's didn't have eTorque either.

Is find a used engine from a reputable salvage yard. Drop it in and trade that puppy off

My rear brake splash shields came loose on my 2019. 1 cut the wheel speedsensor and disabled my abs,cruise ,4wd and skid control. Anyone else have this problem?

Maybe start your own thread,as your issues don't really apply on this thread. And nope that sounds like a lack of maintence issue on your part,as they should of been rattling and making noise long before they were loose enough to cut any electrical cables

If it's just a lifter failure, are you sure you can't rebuild the motor that's in it? I hope the dealership isn't trying to overestimate the cost of repair, convince you to sell it to them for pennies, then sell you a new truck...

If nothing else, slap a used motor or crate motor in it. The truck is going to be worth a lot more running than not running. Then if you want something new(er) you at least have an asset to sell to start down that path.

To answer your question, pre-COVID non-etorque that's had an owner who didn't abuse it.

I couldn't say which is the best year since my 2020 Lonestar is my first Ram/Hemi experience. The water pump went out at 39K and the right-side front wheel bearing hub went bad at 48K. I love the power of the Hemi. My favorites of the truck are the backup camera, the electric folding mirrors and the electric back sliding window. Overall, I really have enjoyed the truck. I would say the 5th gen's are good. Just be dedicated to doing maintenance on even small things. Use the best quality parts for replacement and don't treat it like a rented mule. I am looking forward to many years of service.

If so, perhaps consider a (new/used) replacement engine and call it a day!

IMPO only, ditching your current 2017 rig for a used (not knowing what you're getting) one would not be something I'd consider unless it was a last resort, and/or my current rig was a POS and not worth the effort and expense.
