Saw this open wire harness attached near the passenger side firewall. What is it used for? I’ve got a Tradesman so it’s probably for an upgraded feature.

Thats what that looks like, my 2018 didn't have it, had to hardwire it, I should have looked before I bought the kit.

Don't unplug it... One of two things will happen...

1. All the factory smoke will leak out, leaving you stranded.

2. Your truck will begin the countdown to things breaking and falling off.

It's a conspiracy brought on by the auto manufacturers

Whew, I hope I got to you in time. If not, we might go back in time. That's a discussion for a private and secure forum. Don't tell anyone.

I have a 2017 Tradesman with the plug. Went to add on Ebay and it says kit doesn't fit only goes up to 2016. When I enter my info it says it doesn't fit my truck. Are they wrong?

I am no expert but I don't think the harness changed for that plug looks exactly like my 2015 so my guess is that they are wrong but others here may know for sure.

I have exactly the same situation. New to us 2013 Ram Outdoorsman. Was under the hood today and I see the underhood light has been disconnected. When I plugged it in, it didn't work. Is it controlled by a switch or something? If not, it mus be a bulb problem. Also why would it be disconnected? The truck was previously owned by a Chrysler mechanic so I am assuming he had a good reason for disconnecting it.
