Looking at the overhead panel of our 2011 Sport, where the homelink buttons and map lights are, I see what looks like a camera lens.

What is this?

Good question. I have an 11 Bighorn with the same overhead console but I never noticed that. I'll have to check tomorrow when I get in it

It monitors the light to know when to dim the dash and when to turn on headlights

X2 for (Hemipower), since RAM signed the contract with US government agencies to track and monitor for terrorist sleeper cells in the US all new vehicles have cameras and microphones installed.

It's not for dimming the lights. It's the infrared sensor for the auto temp control.

Even the most basic console that you can order has that sensor. One of the few things ram doesn't delete when its not optioned.

If you don't have the auto temp, then there's not actually the sensor there. It's just the spot where it would be. The spot is still there even on the 2013+ trucks that don't use an infrared sensor anymore for the auto temp control.

It is a led light that shines down on your center console. At least that's what it is in my 2016.

The LED light that shines on the centre console is actually right behind the switch for the rear slider.

I believe it's the Bluetooth microphone, the vehicles that have an overhead console have it there.

Bluetooth microphone is integrated into the rear view mirror.

Ditto on my 2016. You don't see it from a sitting position. Put your hand out when the interior lights come on when you open the door.......it will shine on your hand. Amazing!!!!

Lol come on guys, actually look where the light is coming from, it's not coming from where Caleb is pointing to with his picture. What he is pointing to is the infrared temp sensor location.

Here's a picture I took of a vehicle at work with the light on, you can see the light comes from right by the slider button.

In my '10 that spot is actually blocked off. Just a blank cover over the hole. I just got a console with the HomeLink in it though and it is an open hole. On the back there is a spot for something to be put in, but nothing there.

I would agree that it is probably the sensor for the climate control if you have that option. Since my truck doesn't have it, the hole was blocked.
