I know paint technology now is not what it was when I detailed cars as an 18 year old. How soon after manufacturing is it OK to wax my new Ram? The truck was built 2 weeks ago, would love to get a coat of wax on there before winter hits.

*edit* I use paste wax if that matters. I've tried tons of other things, I just like good old fashioned paste wax best.

Should be no problem waxing it right away. Pretty sure everything is painted and baked pre assembly and with the paint and ovens they use at the factory a couple weeks would be good regardless. If you're concerned then wait a couple more weeks.

I would decontaminate the paint with iron x, claybar, then seal/wax it even though it's new. mine had alot of contamination in the paint straight from the dealer

Did mine today - two weeks after taking ownership and was manufactured 27 August.

It is white and needed decontamination/clay bar and wax due to the rail dust.

It's crazy how dirty these get in transport to dealerships. You should see them getting off the hauler, would make you cringe.

It's definitely ready for wax. Like others have said, I would clay bar or clean it first- like in the old days there is no reason to seal in the dirt!

Interesting this topic came up...just the other day I watched a YouTube video comparing Clay bars to plumbers putty...plumbers putty was equal(as per the guy)and cost way less than the name brands.

The guy thay did the detail work on my 3500 said that there was metallic particles that covered the whole truck when he went to clean it. I guess he uses a chemical thay is supposed to neutralize the contaminants or something like that. He said he sprayed it on and then it turned a purple color from the metal particles on it....
Probably shipped on a rail car

There are so many products that are better than plain ole "paste wax". Easier to apply, last longer, look better etc. Please consider using a modern paint sealant or even a spray on sealant will outlast the paste wax and its a lot easier to use too.
