I am new to the forums. But I am wondering what would be better a flowmaster 40s, or a magnaflow 18". From what I have heard magnaflow is the better buy because of performance, but will it sound good. Or will a 14" magnaflow be better. I don't want it to be stupid loud. its my daily driver. I want something that sounds good at idle of low throttle, and sounds really good at WOT when I am just fooling around. I am leaning toward the 18" but if someone can tell me that the 14 inch will be better form me. please let me know making the order tomorrow.

You'll want the 18" the flowmaster will be too loud for what you want. It's loud all the time. The magnaflow sounds really good on these trucks, I'm debating on having one installed instead of my flowmaster because it drones so much at low speeds.

Ok then the 18" magnaflow it is. All my friends say that the flowmasters are better. I don't believe them because of the strait through design that magnaflow uses vs. flowmasters chamber design. the straight through would give you a boost in performance over the flowmaster. Thank you

I had flowmaster on my last truck and mangaflow on this one, I can honestly say that mangaflow not only sounds better but I felt a performance difference in acceleration. So IMO magnaflow hands down!

I have the flow master 40 series on 5.9 and personally I like them a lot.. I have driven a 5.2 with a chambered 18" or 20" magnaflow and I was thoroughly impressed.. I think either way you go you will be happy with what you get

Use the Magnaflow chamberless mufflers for best performance, another choice that uses straight through design for best performance but isn't too loud while sounding great is the Dynomax ultra flow. Either of those will give you the performance equivalent of straight pipe without the loud roar.

I have used Flowmaster, Magnaflow and cherry bombs, it's all about sound, not one made any improvement performance wise over the other. I have a stainless Magnaflow DI/DO and it drones just as bad as the Flow did.

Had Dynomax and Flowmaster. They both lasted about 2-3 years before rusting-out, and falling apart. Factory one lasted 11. 289k, all original pipes, kept putting new mufflers between them. Not impressed by either brand.

Flowmasters are also known as rust masters in the north.

OP did you get your new muffler installed? Was it what you wanted if so?

I love the sound of my Thrush welded muffler. Best thing about it is they are only $30-40.

I love my Turbo, but I'm debating what one I want to get for my 76. :D

The Dynomax ultra flow are stainless steel throughout, so they should last a good while. I know someone who uses them on a truck he drives mudding a lot, so they get wet, and he's had them about 3 years and they're doing fine.

I second the 50 series, super low rumble on my 5.9 that sounds awesome, especially when its cold and humid out.

I used to have 10. They sound like a broke down boat motor. The Flowmaster with X pipe made that thing rumble. It was nasty. Go Chrysler!

I just built my system with Magnaflows.
Bought them from GotExhaust.com, great customer service and delivered super quick.
I believe they're a vendor here.
I'm loving the sound of these big time. It has a bit of drone but I think that's due to my headers.
