Alright I am trying to figure out which muffler to put on my first truck. I am looking at putting on either a 14in or 18in Magnaflow. I was thinking about the 14in one but the dimensions are very similar to the Flowmaster Super 40 which some people complain about being too loud. Anybody have any words of wisdom?

This is like asking is you like blondes or brunettes, everyone has a personal preference. Check out youtube they have a ton of sound clips. I have had both on my cars and trucks for the last 15 years I always go with Flowmaster now it's not too loud and the Magnaflow has always seemed too quiet for me.

I prefer magnaflow. Had a flowmaster 44 and hated it, sounded cheap. I have an 18 inch maggie to an electric cutout and LOVE it. I've heard a 14 inch maggie and it sounds really nice.

How much louder is the 14in than the 18in? I love the sound of the Magnaflow, I just need to decide on what size I want. I want it to be loud but just not to the point where i get annoyed with it.

Go on youtube, look up and listen to both. I've seen both mufflers on two different vids, both on rams.

I've been listening to YouTube videos on them for a while and it's hard to tell how much louder one is that the other because the camera quality varies so much from video to video. You said you have the 18in on yours? Is it loud enough for you?

When I want to ride quietly, most of the time only on the highway or when I'm out hunting, it sounds great but it's fairly quiet. I have an electric cutout before the muffler and run it open 90% of the time. It bypasses the muffler and is basically an open exhaust. I hit a button on a remote and have it quiet or loud when I want. You'd prolly love one of these, I have the Raceland 3" cutout.

As you could probably guess by my username, I am new to all of this stuff. lol. I have honestly never even heard of those but they sound pretty sick. So basically you control how loud your truck is with it?

I understand bud, everything I've learned about my truck has been from this forum, glad to help. You sure do, it comes with a little black receiver box that plugs into the cutout and comes with a cig lighter plug. I just cut off the cig lighter and hard wired it to the battery so the wire doesnt have to be running through the firewall and take up space. Type in electric cutout on youtube, I'm sure you'll be impressed!

Here's my setup. The cutout is just to the right of the muffler after that little bit of pipe.

I just did and that is pretty insane! I think I am gonna go with the 14in one now that if I get a cutout installed as well I can make it a little quieter if it ends up being too loud. Thanks for all of your help!

Any time man! I went with the 18' instead bc if I want it loud I just open the cutout. Best of both worlds

I have the 14" Maggie and love the sound. It's weird, sometimes you think its too loud and other time you think it should be louder. I guess it depends on the mood your are in in the moment, but I have never thought about changing my magnaflow. I used to run flowmaster, but after running a magnaflow I never looked back, great sound and awesome performance.

wait. By reading this i get the impression that you think adding a cutout will make your 14" quieter which is not the case

Ok I think I am convinced to get the 14in. I feel like if I get the 18in I will want it to be louder. I've never heard one in person but based off of the YouTube videos I love the sound of the Magnaflows.

It doesn't make it quieter? What does it do then? I am new to all this and am just going off of what I am hearing on the forum. A guy earlier said that the cutout would help me control how loud my truck is

I can tell you for certain my 14" xr1, which is a hell of a lot louder than the 14" magnaflow, is much quieter than with my cutout open.
