I'm sorry if this has been beaten to death but I've been reading and haven't come up with an answer. I have a 2012 Tradesman 5.7 with a single exhaust. I installed an S&B and love the sound and improved throttle response. I don't have a lot of money to spend but would like a bit better sound from the truck. I'm not too worried about drone as I've replaced the speakers and the stereo sounds really good so I keep it cranked at highway speeds anyway.

Which muffler would be a good choice that I can bolt on myself? Don't want it obnoxious but a bit throaty would be great. I've also looked under the truck and observed what I believe to be a muffler but there is another "thingy" closer to the engine that looks like it could hold 20 gallons of fluid, WTH is that thing? Lol

At the back near the tailpipe you have the resonator. Directly under the truck is your muffler.. She's a huge one.

I have a flowmaster and resonators removed. Sounds really good, no drone, barely audible going down the hwy but loud enough to give the truck character around town. On a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being stock and 10 being loud enough to make Prius drivers cry, its about a 6. I don't know if flowmaster sells a clamp on kit but whatever muffler you go with if you want that classic truck noise I am a fan of the resonator delete in combination with an aftermarket muffler.

That's correct.

If you want bolt in do it yourself get the 14" Mufflex or the 18", if you want it a little bit more subdued.

I believe I saw where Mufflex is now offering both Flowmaster and Magnaflow.

I'd vote Magnaflow every time due to the fact that there's no restriction.

I'm looking for something middle of the road I guess. I'd like to put a dual exhaust on it but I doubt that's going to be within the budget. Even a CAT back would be nice but I'm limited to just a muffler at the moment.

I appreciate the help guys.
