Well... this has been happening for the last few days. I start the engine and I loud whining noise comes up... since the engine is warming up it is loud at 1500 rpm, then it fades as the rpms go down. It is still there but not as loud as when it starts.

What could it be? Bad alternator? The noise comes from the alternator side of the engine...

Only way is to take off the serpentine belt and spin every pulley to see if there's a bad bearing somewhere.

Or use a small jack handle or short rubber hose and use it as a stethoscope to here where the noise is the loudest. Done while engine running, one side o. Your ear and the other end to the part you want to listen too. Careful not to get anything caught in the belt.

I get a bad one too for about 10-15 seconds when it's really cold out (20ish or lower). It goes away and my buddies ram does the same, so I haven't worried about it.

Same here....I actually just started a thread about it on general discussion. Mine just started a few weeks ago only does it in bitter cold on cold starts but didnt before so theirs something going on there. Also doesn't do it on a few 30+ degree days we had in the mix.... I'm going to the stealership monday and I'm going to have them check the alternator and I'm not taking no for an answer.

Agree, cold starts only, and it's not every time either. Most of the time in extreme cold, but not everytime. If you figure it out, lemme know!
