I love my truck but it gets frustrating dealing with all of the modern day technology at times. I would have preferred a manual transmission, windows, door locks, hubs, etc.. Less stuff to go wrong, less stuff to worry about.

Why can I not park my truck, leave it running and lock the Doors? I have vinyl seats and with it being cold as it's been I like to start it and let it warm up before I drive somewhere. If the truck is running and I open the drivers door it unlocks all of the doors and you can't get them to lock again with the truck running. I just ran down to the gas station and wanted to leave the truck running and locked while I went in. I had to shut the truck off, lock the doors, start it with the drivers side door open and manually lock it before I closed the door.

Stupid and a pain in the ass. Anyone know if things like this can be disabled?

I know if I want to leave the truck running while i run in somewhere, I either use the second fob to lock it, or just take the door key with me. Leave the window open when you get out, then reach in, hit the lock, then close the window (If you have the auto power windows). Kind of a pain to do it that way, but it does the trick when you wanna leave it running on those cold days

I don't have keyless entry or remote start, thinking about having them installed though.

Do you have the power windows with the auto up/down and power locks on the driver's door controls? I know it's a pain, but you can use the main key or the hidden key to unlock the truck after locking it through the window then shutting the window. That way it will be running and locked, and you will still be able to unlock it later

That I do and that is an option I hadn't thought of, thank you for that.

*If you don't have the EVIC in the center of your gauge cluster then it's extremely likely that the dealer can flash and disable the function for you; See underlined re: auto door locks. (It's not the same function, I know, but if they can disable auto-lock then surely they can disable the auto-unlock.)

Page 32 of 2012 Owners Manual:

Automatic Door Locks — If Equipped
When enabled, the door locks will lock automatically
when the vehicle’s speed exceeds 15 mph (24 km/h). The
auto door lock feature can be enabled or disabled by your
authorized dealer per written request of the customer.
Please see your authorized dealer for service.

Auto Unlock Doors — If Equipped
This feature unlocks all of the doors of the vehicle when
either front door is opened. This will occur only after the
vehicle has been shifted into the PARK position after the
vehicle has been driven (shifted out of PARK and all
doors closed).

Auto Unlock Doors Programming — If Equipped
The Auto Unlock Doors feature can be enabled or disabled
as follows:

For vehicles equipped with the EVIC, refer to “Electronic
Vehicle Information Center (EVIC)/Personal Settings
(System Setup)” in “Understanding Your Instrument
Panel” for further information.

EVIC Page 282:

Auto Unlock Doors
When this feature is selected, all doors will unlock when
the vehicle is stopped and the transmission is in the
PARK or NEUTRAL position and the driver’s door is
opened. To make your selection, press and release the
SELECT button until a check-mark appears next to the
feature showing the system has been activated, or the
check-mark is removed showing the system has been
deactivated.

I've got the EVIC, I'll give that a shot when I get home from work.

In my truck there is an EVIC setting that lets me choose to only unlock the drivers door with the key fob instead of all doors. Then I can open the door, start the truck, and push the button down on the drivers door and slam it. (taking the emergency key with me, of course. LOL)

sorry OP but i cant help but find it this a bit ironic. people used to complain about accidentally locking the keys in the car with the car running and how there should be a safety feature to protect against that. now we have the opposite.

a remote start kit is only $100. its the best $100 ive spent on the truck thus far.

I plan to have remote start & keyless entry installed at some point but I don't have it at the moment. I get what you're saying but I typically find things designed to protect me from myself to be much more annoying than useful, this is one of those.

I was able to change the setting in EVIC. I thought for sure I'd gotten into that setup but when I went in there I don't recall seeing any of the settings before so apparently I had not.

Thanks for the info, very much appreciated.

Best thing about this forum, always seems to be someone that answers a question quick and clearly. Don't even have my truck ordered yet but have learned a lot and making me anxious to finally get my truck this summer.

Which remote start did you go with? Did you already have keyless entry?

Yes the aftermarket remote starter is the answer.

Hold the start button when you park and running, turn the key to off, get out and hit the lock button. Problem solved. Anyone that jumps in and tries to steal it? As soon as they put their foot on the brake to shift gears, the truck shuts off.

I have the DBALL remote start. total cost was less than $80. It doesn't have a pitstop mode (that I'm aware of anyway), but I work around it if need be.

If I really want the truck to run when I go into a convenience store, I just remote start it when I get out of the truck. Since it uses the lock button to start, the doors lock for me.

Honestly though, I only did that maybe twice ant that was while the snow was coming down hard. If the truck is warmed up it's not like it's gonna get freezing in there in 5 minutes.

I do agree that the way things are all computer controlled makes it harder to mod an leaves more to malfunction. However, I would never want to go back to manual windows and stuff. Well, unless I had a nice classic car or something, but not in a modern car or truck.

Hey Ray... Not to be contrary, but the DBALL does have a pit stop mode. It's described waaay in the back of the instructions no one ever reads. lol
If you read the instructions, you may also find the DBALL will turn on your heated seats. :)
Funny how it's so popular, but no one mentions this.
