Why so much Chrome dislike?

I guess my first try at adding a photo didn't work.

Not into chrome. Not even washing my truck.
Been almost 4 years since I washed my Harley.
Edit; My truck hardly even has paint on it.

I am not a chrome fan myself. I just picked up a new Ram a few days ago, and it will not have any chrome left on it by the end of next week.

Chrome has its place, and does look good on some vehicles, but on these trucks, I simply prefer the painted/sporty look.

Back in my day and that was a long time ago in the 60's, the saying was"If it don't go - Chrome it"

Therefore, I drive vehicles like this. :favorites13:

I'm not a fan of chrome purely because I have found that the cheap plastic chrome imitation doesn't hold up as well. It stains over time and requires a lot more maintenance than paint (in my experience) I specifically sort out a sport for the fact that I wanted the color matched bumpers and door handles. I think the solid paint across the entire vehicle provides a much cleaner look overall.

i like chrome for the simple fact that my arctic camo ram looks like a fleet truck without it.plus i don't care to follow the herd.

I like chrome. When it came time to get my truck I wanted chrome bumpers and grille, I had already also envisioned aftermarket chrome rims. But that is the extent of it. Cant do all the chrome handles and mirrors and vent shades and bug deflector...Too much...I think my truck has just enough but not tooo much chrome. I think the chrome thing whether pro or con has to do with age,
location, environment, trends. I have seen the whole black thing way over done also.....

Chrome looks fine but when you start putting stick on chrome accents all over it looks bad.

Yea I think chrome is fine in moderation. I don't like to much chrome or no chrome at all unless your going for that blacked out look. I like how my sport came from the factory with just enough in the grill, exhaust tips, and some badging to provide some contrast. Plus the Aluminum wheels are polished pretty shinny.

I am tired of the blacked out look (I have a blacked out GT500 ie:all black paint limo tint black rims etc) and I think it is getting kind of old. I started with the blacked out look 7 years ago so its time for something else. My new R/T has chrome running boards, exhaust tips and the rims are so shiny they look like chrome, much nicer thank you very much.

I've noticed going through all the member photos that the vast majority of you seem to prefer mostly painted looks. Where's the chrome love? Is it just because I'm an older guy? I've always preferred pickups to have a more semi/rig truck look to them, it feels more Mad Max to me whereas the body paint majority look I feel is more car-like. If it wasn't so ridiculous a size to drive around as a personal vehicle I'd love a chrome beast like the one in this picture (forgive me, it's a Furd, I just grabbed it for a quick Google search example)

Cyclical Nature of Things.

Chrome will make a comeback.

Who knows, maybe just maybe, Avocado Green Fridges and Stoves will come back too. If not, Avocado Green, How about a Harvest Gold Comeback?

I dig the chrome but hate the stick on plastic. Most of the stuff on my 05 is stainless664e5aed5607d18f24612734d36a40f3.jpg

My bike has a little chrome too.

I absolutely hate the monochrome, dipped-in-paint look of modern cars. It just looks cheap, like a toy that's been molded out of a single piece of plastic. Chrome is a design element, a way to add visual interest to an otherwise dull lump. I'm deliberately looking for ways to add shiny metal to my '04.

Buuuuuuuut... I want to smack the owner every time I see a car with a chrome gas filler door.

I'm 32 and have never liked chrome on any of my vehicles.. I bought my ram in Jan of this year and the first thing I did was get rid of anything chrome on the outside. I'm about halfway done with the chrome trim on the inside. Its just my personal preference... I just got a new work truck a 18 2500 and it has the chrome grille, bumpers, and badges and I dont like the look at all
