Will bad tach affect electric start?

Just picked up a 2006 dodge ram 2500 big horn. It came with a compustar remote start. When I hit the start button on the remote, you hear the fuel pump start and the engine starts, runs for 2 seconds and shuts off. Does this three times via one push of the button. The tach issue is weird. Sometimes works and sometimes doesn't according to the PO. Only had the truck a week. Anyone know if the tach is causing the remote start not to work??
