I just scheduled new tires to be put on tomorrow. After much debate I went with my original plan of 295/70/18 coopers at3 xlt on stock steelies.
I currently have the same tire in 275/70/18 that I had put on my previous 18 2500 6.4 with 3.73s. I lost about a mpg putting those tires on that truck. When I traded the truck I had the tires swapped over as they were still very new, so I never did get to see the mpgs of the Firestone’s on my 2020 2500 6.4 with 4.10s.
I specifically went with 4.10s because I wanted to put a taller tire on and not sacrifice much performance. There is only 4 pounds difference between the 295’s and the 275’s I have on so I don’t think that will be much of a factor as the 1” increase in height and width.
Am I dreaming that I could see an increase in highway mpg with the reduced gear ratio as a result? Or that I won’t see much if any decrease in overall mpg. I drive this truck daily, many hundreds of miles a week. I get money for fuel and the truck from my company but I still don’t want to take too much of a hit.
