Will shocks fix the bouncy ride?

I have a 2014 Express, bought it used. This looked and smelled brand new.

The truck rides smooth but there is some bounciness to the ride.
Nothing terrible. Most people don't notice it, but it's something that no other car I have ever owned had.
It basically feels like the rebound in my shocks is not smooth.

I walked the dealers lot and pushed the back bumper on multiple 2017 models. They all pulse when they rebound. Again never noticed this on other vehicles.

Does anyone know if different shocks will reduce my bounciness ?

My point was , if he's never had a truck and this one has 30-40k , it may be normal .

New shocks definitely will stop the bounce if the shocks are worn out or high mileage [emoji106][emoji106]

I recommend Bilsteins. They are better and cheaper than stock replacements. 5100's for increased ride height in the front or 4600's for stock ride height.

I have the bills up front @ +2.8" for a level and I agree a great ride.

Not that mine rides bad and it only has 35k miles, but what are people doing for stock replacement shocks (stock ride height)? I have seen the 4600 Bilsteins as an option which are mentioned in this thread, but out of curiosity, what are the other options?

I am not so sure shocks will fix this. My first thought is some change the springs. First step is to look at the shocks and see if they are leaking. If not, have them checked by a mechanic to see if they are worn. On a 14 I doubt they are worn out.

My recently acquired '14 with 41XXX on the clock rides well, but nothing like the '01 Dakota 4X4 I owned previously with 70XXX on it and the OEM shocks. The Dakota was firm riding from day one (bought new) and seemed to have retained the ride through the years and the miles. The '14 rides far more like you fathers Oldsmobile in my mind, but I know it's the engineered ride, not bad shocks. I'm sure changing them to something new will make a difference and to something with a stiffer rebound would definitely make a difference but they are good and I'm adjusting to the ride as it is. I'm too old to worry about minutia like that anymore. And I have a Miata for when I need to "feel the road".

Did you inspect the shocks to see if there's any oil residue on the bottom? That's a telltale sign of a failing or failed shock where oil is leaking out. If only one shock has failed the whole vehicle can become bouncy because you're asking a remaining shock to do the work of two. OEM shocks can last a long time, even though a lot of guys claim they fail right away. I have a Jeep with almost 200k on original shocks. But of course, yours could be bad too. Also, rubber bushings can fail which would make it bouncy too (the rubber can be replaced).

Besides oil leaking out, oil seals inside the shock can leak internally too. Either way, if you don't see any problems, and you're not comfortable with the ride, maybe a slightly more firm shock is in order.

does anybody know if the BH vs laramie have different shocks on the 4x4?

i just traded my 14 qc BH 4x4 Hemi with 43k for a 17 CC Laramie 4x4 ED, and the 17 rides way more plush

Sorry took me so long to reply.

It doesn't matter if I owned a truck before, the pulsing is still there.
If it helps, I have owned a 1969 C-10, 1981, S-10, 1979 Toyota truck and a 2009 F-150.
I have owned new cars to ****** cars. This isn't a busted or leaking shock.
My suspension components are immaculate.
I am just putting this down as a "Dodge thing"

I did get a loaner for 1/2 a day. Sadly I was more focused on how nice a limited slip feels as opposed to my open.

I asked hoping that it was a common thing that is easily fixed with new shocks.

Interested in this too. Or if the different models have coil springs? Looking at the Mopar Parts website, they have a couple different springs with different codes

If this is your first truck, or first Ram which has rear coil springs and not leaf springs you may be experiencing something you never have before.

If as you say, all Rams on the lot bounce the way yours does, you may be locking in on the coil springs. That being said, your shocks will age. I have the OEM shocks on my 2012 at 66K miles and I'm not getting ridiculous bounce or roll now.

Someday Bilstein 4600s will be replacing those--eventually. Check these guys out for options and what seem like pretty good prices.

Interestingly enough, I also just recently (last Sept) went from an '01 Dakota 4x4, bought new, to a '14 RAM 1500 with 4XXXX on the clock. I did change the shocks on the Dakota once, but I towed a lot with it. The RAM rides softer imo and the feel of the rear end when going over large bumps took some getting used to. The rear coils are a much different feel than the leaf springs on the Dakota. I haven't done any major towing with the RAM yet (just a couple of 1 ton topsoil loads in a small trailer so far) but I did take it on a 1400 mile trip and the highway ride was much better. I had to watch my foot, it was very easy to go way over the speed limit without realizing it. That all said, I will be towing this summer and I plan to upgrade the RAM to Bilstein 4600's, a Heliwig sway bar and either Tinbren Bump Stops or a set of airbags first.

Had street tires, the standard Wrangler SR-A and now have new ATs.
The ride is the same.

This not a bounce like worn shocks, broken suspension or tire balance. Its just a small pulsing or resonation.
At all speeds, less evident if the road is perfectly flat.
Apparently no one else has it.

I second this. I put Bilsteins on the front to level and didn't realize how bouncy the truck was before. After installing I immediately realized how "planted" the truck felt. Completely worth it especially to level a 4x4 and they have a lifetime warranty to boot.

Holsteins are best. Heavier rear stabilizer bar. Rear airbags If towing!! Fixed!

Shock up grade on the list. I see someone wrote that I could get a little boost in ride height.
That is another reason to upgrade.

I am still trying to hash out parts for my oil filter relocation.

Thanks guys.
