Ok so i have seen some threads saying while upgrading to the 8.4 their hvac stops working eventually they fix it with some other part or re wiring something. Now i already have the 8.4 screen in my truck i picked up a bit over a week ago (used) its a 14 1500 now i have found that i tend to use all of the hardware controls for everything AC heated seats/wheel and what not so if i loose the option to control that stuff on screen its not really a big loss to me but do those hardware buttons simply tell the head unit im changing a setting ? meaning if i remove the 8.4 in favor of a custom setup will those systems stop working even though i have hardware controls for them?

side question and i should probably make another thread if it gets to indepth but anyone know of a way of pullin the software and emulating it on windows ? in thinking of doing a similar setup i did on my wrx

People simply install the full conversion so they can control the HVAC settings from the actual screen as well as the hard keys. You will not damage anything keeping it the way it is. We all kept them that way before the conversion harness was figured out. If you install an aftermarket head unit in your truck I'm pretty sure there are ways to have your HVAC settings show up on the radio but there are other components that need to be added for it to connect to your CAN system.

i had the hvac stop working on my 2014 when upgrading to the 8.4. after an hour of searching i found a bad wire connection. nothing too crazy. it was an easy fix once i found it.. all my settings on the soft keys work perfectly. and work in sync with the hard keys.

upgraded from a 5.0 radio

I was afraid this would happen. My truck already has the 8.4 it was that way when i bought it. So it was either that way from the factory or the previous owner did the conversion and all is working as it should. I want to remove the 8.4 in favor of a custom setup . To give you an idea of what im talking about my WRX i have a tablet installed in the dash which controls the ignition system stereo Air suspension and reads the obd2 port. I am thinking of doing a similar setup but with a window machine this time instead of android as ill have more flexibility with the OS. So i want to make sure removing the 8.4 head unit isnt going to disable the hardware buttons and they will still work to control everything without the ram factory head unit.
