I’m dealing with an issue on my 2011 Dodge Ram 1500 (5.7 Hemi) and could use some advice. My WIN (Wireless Ignition Node) module is completely shot. It's done. I bought a used WIN module from a scrap yard that came with a paired key. After installing it, the truck starts for about two seconds, the security light comes on, and then it shuts off. It seems like the module and key are paired, but my truck’s immobilizer isn’t recognizing them.

I’ve seen people online claim they’ve successfully replaced their WIN module with either used or brand-new modules, and both have worked for them in different situations. Some people buy a brand-new WIN module with a pre-programmed key, and all they have to do is plug in the wiring harness, screw it in, and it just works—even though it’s not specifically tied to their truck.

Meanwhile, others have bought used WIN modules with a key already paired to the module from a different truck, and it worked for them. I’ve tried this, but it hasn’t worked in my case.

My main questions are:

1. Does a used WIN module require programming to work with a different truck’s immobilizer system, even if the module and key are paired?

2. How are people getting new modules that seem to work right out of the box without needing to be paired with the truck’s immobilizer? Is it because the new module and key are pre-programmed together but not vehicle-specific?

I’ve gotten conflicting information from locksmiths, dealers, and online sources. Any advice or insight on this would be greatly appreciated.

Did you look up WIN modules in a search? THere's literally scores of "Win Module" posts over the years.

Secondly, there's tons of youtube info on them.

My first reaction is , why would you buy a part like that from a scrap yard? You're only buying somebody else's problems.
The fob is not matched to the WIN module, it is programmed into the vehicles security module, your "new" WIN module will need to be incorporated into the vehicles systems, that is called the CAN (central access networking) system where all the components "talk" to each other and if you replace any component in the system you need to make it talk to everything else and have everything else talk to the module. (an oversimplified explanation but I hope it gets the point across) Hence programming.

I made this new post for context and to ask specific questions about my I dividual situation.

Here's what I've tried to get some idea of what I have to do
Obviously because I have no idea what Im doing.

USED in this co text will means from an autowrecker.

Used WIN and Used key came together in very good condition.

Steps taken:

Used WIN + original key: nothing happens, no accessory power, no electronics, no lights, **** all, 'wrong key'

Used WIN, Used key: powers on, all electrical devices functioning, truck starts from two seconds before immobilizer(best fuess) shuts truck off, security light blinking.

I uad a locksmith come and program a key also. When it 2as programmed, the USED WIN was in the truck, so...

NeW key, Used WIN: powers on, 3lwc5eonics working, doesn't give any indication of wrong key or damaged key.

Would the key that was programmed be in contact with the immobilizer even if the USED WIn was installed during programming?

I appreciate the help. I have all of this ready to go, but the catch is... the old win is broken to the point it won't power on the truck so I can't pull the pin from the old module. Is there a way to supply power as I pull the pin?

You might be able to contact a dealership, give them your VIN and they may be able to give you the code.

I won't swear to this, but you might try a PIN with 4 ZEROs

Like 0000 & 1234

I think that is what they use with every Ram, until the dealership changes it for some reason
