Gents (and ladies), I am curious about suspension setups. Before I dive in, let me prelude this with that I've had both lowered, lifted, stock trucks before. I had the belltech kit on my '11 ram. My '12 and '13 I cut the springs for the 1" effect. Now I own the orange '15. Here is my thoughts/questions...

I got a ton of **** when i had my truck lowered via belltech from friends. Furthermore, I was damn close to the bump stops, meaning a fairly firm and sometimes rough ride. I eventually went back to stock.
My 'cut springs' rides maintained basic ride and all, just closed the gap some.

The good thing with lowered-easier to wash, harder to work under. Just the opposite if I lifted.

I guess I'm wondering here, is there any aerodynamic (aka mpg) gain from lowering, since less drag? I know lifting affects negatively on mpg.

Overall, I'm not sure what I want to do with the truck. Stock is fine, just curious if I want to change it for looks, affects, etc. I don't really haul anything, but I do at times (like furniture of something). Just curous on what peoples thoughts are on lowering, stock, lifting....

Having owned both lowered and lifted trucks, I would lower it. The big lifted diesels were fun for a while, but not being able to go through the drive through at the bank and fast food restaurants, not being able to get into parking garages, loss of power and mileage from the larger tires, cost of replacing those larger tires and added stress on the drivetrain components...there were enough negatives to bring me back to the lowered stance.

Now, even my 1500 4wd has a Ground force 2/3 lowering kit on it, and I wouldn't have it any other way. Great for performance, no loss of mileage, looks mean with wide tires under it, and its just more practical all around. If you tow, just throw a set of air bags in the rear coils, and call it good.

I appreciate all the replies gents, truly!!

@ Matt - sir I respect your stance on the subject (no pun intended), but goign low also has tradeoffs like tougher oil changes, careful on incline/garage lifts/etc, not to mention I need that hellwig rear bar to make everything right. Amirite? I'm close to buying a set of black nerf bars for the truck only cause wife and younger boys have a hard time gettign in it...guess lowering would fix that. I've had the belltech kit, I'm thinking the GF kit would be better to me since its not a 4" drop on the rear.

Usually any more than a 2" drop will suffer ride quality. The frame to axle clearance really kills the ride quality. Riding bump stops is no fun. The frame on my Dakota is c-notched ($$$$) and it rides amazing compared to trucks lowered the same but with factory frame. I doubt a drop would make the gas mileage noticeably better. I have cut coils to lower before with good results but typically it's about a 1/2 of a coil at most. Just to get proper rake or level etc.
