Hello RamForum, I recently purchased a 2007 Ram 3500 4x4 with the Cummins 5.9 engine and Larime interior package. It has a factory installed Model REF AM-FM-CD radio. THe radio has a "Mode" button that when you push it, AUX and SAT shows on the display. The owners manual only speaks of Satalite Radip as a possible option. I contacted a local Ram dealer and they gave me the part numbers for the add on satalite kits. Although the kits are no longer available from MOPAR. THey are available from discontinued parts companies... they are quite pricy... all together almost $500.00.

My questions are:

1. Has anyone on the forum purchased the Receiver kit (Morpar # 82209719AD) and the Install Kit (Mopar # 82210433) and installed it on the REF model radio? How well did it work?

2. Was the install difficult?

3. Were these two kits the only parts needed to make this conversion?

Thank you for checking out my posts and I appriciate any feed back I receive on this conversation.

Does your radio have GPS in it also? I have an 06 2500 CTD Larime that has GPS as part of the radio. If not try going to satellite and see if any station comes up. As I recall it was around channel 180 or so and it just contained encouragement for you to sign up for Sirius radio. If that works then you already have everything you need expect for the Sirius contract. Contact Sirius give them the radio number, sign up do a couple of other things and you will be up and running. Can't remember where I found the radio number, but Sirius C/S should be able to help with that. You can also run your VIN at the Chrysler VIN website to find out exactly what your truck came with. several of the guys on here can give you a link to that website.

Good Luck

Mike

Hello Mike, Thanks for the reply. :>) No, the radio does not have GPS capability. I did call Sirius/XM and they did not have a kit for the REF model radio to receive XM. I hate to spend this much $$$ and not know if it's going to work... Purchasing an aftermarket radio that is set up for satalite radio may be my best bet - but I perfer to keep the truck stock.

Thanks again!

Personally I hated those factory radios. Honesty your best bet is to go to an aftermarket one. You can have a much nicer and more functional radio, with satellite and gps, for the same or less than what it will cost you to try to add satellite to that factory one.

Another thing that pissed me off about those factory radios (at least the one that came in my 08) was that they have Bluetooth, but no ability to Bluetooth stream music.

Thanks for the reply Justin13703... I think your advice about an aftermarket radio with all the newer features is the way to go.

Thanks again!

No problem, if you need a hand finding parts or with the install just ask.
