I just changed my plugs myself this past weekend and now I have the following issue with my 2011 5.7L. Before changing them there was no miss at all, the old plugs looked like they were burning good just the electrodes were getting rounded off on the back side. I just bought the truck so have no idea how many miles were on them. I took out standard NGK and replaced them with NGK platinum all gapped at .044 Now there is a definite intermittent miss between 1500-2000 rpm (sitting still working the throttle. I don't know about under load yet because I haven't driven it since doing this because, well, I'm on parole and can't leave without prior permission from the p.o. so I can't just jaunt out for a test drive). Starts fine, idles fine and it's not missing bad enough to throw any codes at all. Other things I did while I was in there was R&R the throttle body and cleaned it with CRC brake cleaner because it was pretty gunky (official mechanical term lol). Also installed a program for 87 octane with my superchips f5 programmer but upon restoring the stock program the miss is still there. Also I sprayed a little brake cleaner into the intake to loosen some of the oil film up that was there (should note there are almost 114,000 miles on engine). Only 2 things that are jumping out at me and that is #1 possible the base o-ring on the throttle body didn't seal correctly when I put it back on or #2 (and I think this is more likely) I cracked a spark plug when I installed them, specifically on the 5 or 7 cylinders. If you've ever done your own you'll know why I say that. The miss is so light that it doesn't throw a code but you can feel a little vehicle shake and pick up the slight intermittent "pop" in the exhaust tone. I did the muffler delete so you can definitely hear it. Going to start on cylinder 5 and 7 removing the new plugs and checking for cracks AFTER my ribs heal up from leaning over the fender the first time, they're a little tender right now but I thought I would see if I can gather some opinions on this, about the engine miss that is not thebthe on parole part lmao. There I just bared my soul to all of you.

I would find out exactly what came in it from the factory(probably NGK copper plugs, what you took out) and put the exact same plugs back in because the older hemi's are finicky about plugs. Pre/middle 2013 and older Hemi's ran copper plugs at a 30k interval. You would probably need the newer coils to run platinum or iridium plugs. That's my guess anyway.

#1 you probably should not have sprayed cleaner into the intake. Though that's more likely not the issue.

#2 most likely it's a bad spark plug or connection. If you back up the troubleshooting, I'd replace (carefully) the plugs. For now, I'd stick with OEM replacement.

I am not trying to insult you... Don't drop or aggressively handle the plugs. They don't just break, but the ceramic and inside wire are fragile. Obviously, check gap on a table separate from the truck.

Add a spot of dielectric grease to the plug wire tip. Install the plugs using a spark plug socket. (Rubber protection inside the socket.) Check to not over torque them, which can break the ceramic.

Once done double check all connections are tight. Ensure spark plug wire are in the right cylinder.

Let us know how this goes.

Your maintenance and tune activities have nothing to do with this intermittent miss. Check all wires and coils and replace if needed.

If all checks out theissue is with the plugs and specifically the material the electrode is made from.

The platinum electrode is the problem as it has over 6 times the resistance of equivalent copper electrode spark plugs. The end result is the coils aren’t putting out enough power to overcome the added resistance. Keeping the platinum plugs will ultimately cause more issues than they are worth.

Return the platinum plugs and pick up copper ones.

Like everyone said wrong plugs, bummer man but it is what it is. I do believe you can opt to change coil packs instead, but if it were me I'd still with oem plugs for 2011.

I appreciate all the input and am going to switch back to copper/nickel plugs as soon as I can afford it as I spent a *** on 16 platinums. Speaking of........used NGK platinum plugs for sale, super low mileage lol. Maybe with any luck Rock Auto will let me return them. I did all of the above-mentioned with the dielectric grease and gapping them so it has to be ol girl just being finiky with what she wants. Thanks everyone. I'll update as I am able. One more thing.......any opinions on going with standard Autolite plugs rather than the NGK? I know years ago Autolite was the OEM brand for Mopar products. They are a heck of a lot cheaper.

the nickel plated copper plugs are cheap man. whats more expensive. new plugs, or a new motor? lol

I agree with you. Picking up 16 new Autolite coppers in a couple days. Had to order them. Can you believe how hard it is to find standard plugs these days? They all want to sell you platinums or iridium's, matter of fact they did me the first time around.
Also something else I just caught KeepRight.....all great advice brother except the part where you said to make sure the right wires are going to the right cylinders. Ummmm coil packs lol. I did make sure to put them back on the cylinders I removed them from though but that shouldn't really make a difference. Again everyone thanks for the help and advice. Just love this forum!

dielectric grease can cause mis fire as well, see if any got on the tops.

what i would do is get a scan tool scan for misfire on all cylinders.. it might be a dirty clogged injector

Personally I wouldn't change the brand either. The only thing that I've messed with in the past was the heat range. I always thought AC Delco plugs sucked too and loved Champion!

Never have had a problem with dielectric grease. I have experienced tearing up plug wires that were stuck on the tip of plugs that did not have grease on them. I think the same would be true with coil packs on a hemi. It appears the consensus is that on my 2011 5.7 Hemi I need to stick with the OEM style plugs unless I want to change coil packs for iridium plugs and who knows what else?

I ended up putting Autolite standard copper in and the truck loves them! And just FYI Rock Auto did warranty out the platinum plugs with no hassle at all just told them my truck wouldn't run on them then I used the store credit to purchase an electric fan set up for the v-6 model and did the mechanical fan delete on my truck. Worked better all the way around and I thank all of you for your advice.
For the record I've never had an issue with dielectric grease myself causing misfires but then again I put it on very sparingly not by the lbs.

Crap, after reading this thread i'm going to have to return my NGK iridium plugs and get the copper/nickel versions. Good thing I found this thread before I took them to my truck guy to have them changed. Are you guys using the CHA446 plugs, NAPA's website says they are OEM type.

Crap, after reading this thread i'm going to have to return my NGK iridium plugs and get the copper/nickel versions. Good thing I found this thread before I took them to my truck guy to have them changed. Are you guys using the CHA446 plugs, NAPA's website says they are OEM type.

I bought Autolite standard copper. Don't remember the exact number 5325 or something like that. My truck absolutely loves them, hated the NGK platinum I bought. Thankfully Rock Auto warrantied them for me!

My mechanic asked me if I had the Champion plugs, told him I didn't and he said to take them back and get the Champions, which were less than half the price of the NGK iridium plugs. I've got 150+k miles on my truck and as far as I know they've never been changed, truck runs good but I think it's time for fresh plugs. lol
