I wouldn't mind the MDS if it worked more seamlessly.
Absolutely!! It does save gas, but when it works the way it currently does,................I think it sucks!!
FCA you need to fix this.

In my 09, if I use tow/haul or turn off MDS, the Fuel Saver light doesn't come on anymore.

I have noticed that if I've been driving around for a little bit getting the oil up close to 200 that the MDS works more seamlessly. FYI I'm running Pennzoil Platinum 5w-20

Wow,......that's good to know. I'm running the Mobil 1 full synthetic. I would hate to switch over now though.
Thanks for the info.

If I remember correctly the oil temp has a minimum temp it must reach as one of the many cenarios that must be reached prior to MDS being activated.
I believe it's 120° ?? Not positive though .

It does need to warm up a bit before it will activate at all. There's been some cold (for FL) nights here and I notice that the MDS won't work until I drive around for about 5 minutes. It will work when my gauge/cluster says "Oil Temperature <122" but there's a noticeable improvement in smoothness above 170. This is just my experience though.

All in all, I don't personally have any issues with it. The sound doesn't bother me because I know what it is and when I hit the gas it responds like and sounds like a hemi. I would have more problems if it was an F150 Ecobust. When you hit the gas on that it sounds like a Prius.

I personally think there is too many people ******** about this! You knew when you bought the truck that it had MDS, & it can be turned off with a tune or button. I do agree however for the amount of technology that has gone into it, it does not work as efficient as it could/should. With as heavy as these trucks are I would think that more of a step down process would be more successful. From 8 to 6 cylinders under mild load, & down to 4 when very light load. That is probably just more technology to break down but seems like it might work better for 6-7,000 pound vehicles.

You can’t get a 8 cylinder to run as smooth on 6 cylinders as the firing timing would not be in sync

8 to 6 then to 4 cylinders.??? I've never heard that coupled with MDS operation ??

To my knowledge the 6 cylinder cenario does not exist ...

I'm refering to the 5.7L Hemi only . The MDS goes from 8 to 4 cylinders , not to 6 cylinders at any point .

I didn't say it exist on the Hemi but that it might be more efficient than the current MDS. As crazykid mentioned it may not work with timing setup.
