V8 Hemi. Manual says 87 Octane acceptable, but 91 preferred. In the North East Premium is generally 93 Octane. Selling dealership said use regular.

I had thought to use Plus which is generally 89 Octane, but not every location sells it.

I would think using same grade is most important for engine life. Opinions?

Its completely standard and very new (118 miles) and isn't used for towing.

I ran a few tanks of regular when gas was still crazy high, mileage dropped quite a bit (3-4 MPG), went right back up with 89 octane. 89 only runs 10 cents more a gallon here, worth it in my opinion. Not paying for 93, couldn't afford it- I drive 500-600 miles a week now.

89 every tank... Once a month I will add a 3/4 tank of 91...

At local Loves: Pump says 100% Pure Gas! Is it? Who knows...

I would use 89, except Costco doesn't sell it, and even if they did, it would have 10% ethanol which hurts the overall performance of the gas. I usually compensate by using 91 (still 10% ethanol most places out here), especially with the Diablo tuner I just ordered for it.

Some remote places out here don't sell anything but 87, so I usually just have Sean (hemifever) write me a good 89 octane tune and use 91 when I can, 87 if I have no other choice.

Manual says not to use premium for the 05 hemi so I gladly use 89 instead.

Unless your tuned, using anything more than 89 in a RAM 5.7 is pretty much money out the window. (There's volumes of information written on octane requirements, benefits/lack thereof,,, No need to post all of that info here)

Rule of thumb is to always use the lowest octane your engine can run on w/o pre-ignition or detonation. The RAM 5.7 is basically designed around 89 octane, but it's equipped with sensors / electronics that can adjust it's operating parameters to allow it to run on 87.

If I'm just fiddle-fartin around in town/stop and go traffic/to work and back,,, 87 it is.
89 on trips or towing.

I used 93 for a little while after I got the truck and never noticed a difference between it and 89 that I use now..

I've ran all 3.

Didn't notice a damm bit of difference.

Truck still gets up n goes no matter what's in there.

Still sucks the **** down no matter what's in there.

Besides....do we REALLY know if they are even actually different from one another? Could be the same **** for all we know. :roflsquared:

I run 89 octane because the manual allows for 87 but it recommends 89.

This has been my thoughts as well! Just because I push a selected button at the pump--->Do I actually Trust that I am getting that selected Octane that I am paying for? How many gallons are still in the pump from the previous buyer {Different Octane} that I am actually paying for that is Not My Selected Octane? It would be nice just to have 2 Octane selections again... Unleaded and Super Unleaded...

Years ago Super Unleaded was dyed Red! If you used a clear inline fuel filter-->You could actually see that you were running premium...

I only run 91 from Shell because it's the only pure gas we have left here. Regulation force a minimum of 5% ethanol in regular (87), but it's E10 everywhere. I was tempted to run 89 mixed from the Shell 91, but the price difference is like 4$ on a full tank so why bother.

I have a tuner so I can benefit also from the extra octane

First few tanks have been 87, with gas under $2 I will try out 89 and see if there is a difference.
