Will the AlfaOBD correct this:

I'm missing the "turn by turn" feature in the 7" evic and I can't find the option to turn it on. The evic is an upgraded one from my 3.5" one. I have a 2014 express 1500, upgraded the radio to a 8.4an (bezel and all). the truck had the 3.5 evic earlier in the day and the turn by turn was working in the 3.5, and when I swapped out to the 7" it isn't there, but it displays the name of the street, and distance, just no picture showing the road or arrow to turn. This is what I get:View attachment 144013
I haven't seen this happen before. It appears the the feature is enabled in your radio but the speedometer is only displaying part of the image. You can use the alpha tool to enable the code that will give you the option to turn the Turn By Turn in and off in your settings menu but I am not sure it would help your issue. Try disconnecting the battery for ten min or so and see if that helps. It most likely won't but I have seen it help in the past with weird glitches. If that doesn't help try reseting the speedo info by turning the ignition to run and the fully depress the gas pedal five times. I can't remember if it takes 3 or 5 presses to reset it but just do five to make sure. This will reset your oil life meter back to 0 as well so make sure you know when the oil is due to be changed. This might help because it resets the speedometer and maybe the glitch will go away. If that doesnt help if you have done the full 8.4 conversion with the 8.4 bezel you can try a soft reset on the radio by pushing the mute and browse buttons simultaneously until the screen turns off and then release them. Anyway to answer your question: yes the alpha tool has the capability of tuning in the code to enable the setting. When we install these radios the turn by turn is almost always on by default and since yours is displaying part of the information I would say yours is already turned in as well. It's most likely some type of communication glitch. Good luck let us know how it goes.

I've upgraded my 2014 to the 7" evic and I have a RA3 which I have the factory NAV activated and I have the same problem.... I have the text but no picture.

Wow that is actually pretty strange. Do you have the option to turn the feature on and off in your settings menue? I have done several of the conversions and I haven't seen this happen. It either is on or it's off. Since his 3.5" speedometer displayed the image correctly it's got to be some type of glitch with the new speedometer.

I’ll disconnect the battery in a few minutes. Funny thing is that I had also noticed the “ram 1500” splash screen disappeared from it also right after the mileage correction flash.

That may actually be something that isn't a quincidence. On all the conversions I have done the speedometers haven't had the mileage corrected. I usually find them with more mileage and then wait for them to match to do the install. I do know of people who have had them corrected and had no issues with the turn by turn but maybe in some cases depending on how they do the mileage correction it can cause an issue? Either way it's definitely strange.

Dominic did the correction. I HIGHLY doubt with all the corrections he’s done before that he did something.

I installed it in the truck when I got there so I had my correct mileage and hours from my old cluster, and he flashed those numbers to the new one about 15 minutes later.

In about 5 minutes I’ll reconnect the battery and post what happens.

I'm not saying Dominic did annything wrong. I'm just saying if the Ram 1500 logo disappeared as well maybe something happens to certain speedometers when they get flashed. Who knows?

Sorry. Yes, That’s what I’m saying. Maybe some speedometers have issues.

Anyway. I tried all that and it didn’t work. Maybe a bcm reflash at the dealer? Maybe the evic graphics were wiped somewhere and the reflash puts them back or something?

I don't think a trip to the dealer would help you at all. A flash on your BCM will just restore the factory settings in your BCM. As you said it seems like certain graphics were somehow possibly erased. Did you try doing the reset on the speedometer and the radio? If you have already tryed that I really dont know what else you could do other than possibly trying a different speedometer and maybe even buy one with more mileage and just wait untill they match.

Is it a 2013 cluster - IIRC there were issues with 2013's display in later model trucks...

I followed the same upgrade process - RA2 > RA4 upgrade, plus upgraded cluster programmed by Dominic. Similar to Ricks_Ram the Turn by Turn was on by default I didn't have to change anything.

Also perhaps try a Canbus reset - Infotainment suggested that when was having some oddness with my RA4.

Canbus Reset

• Close and lock vehicle including windows for 10 minutes
• Remove positive and negative cables from the vehicles battery.
• Touch and hold the cables together for a 20 seconds
• (if you have a diesel, disconnect both batteries, then do one battery at a time then go to next step)
• Let the vehicle sit for 30-40 minutes.
• Reconnect terminals
• With all doors closed, lock the vehicle and let it sit for another 20 minutes.
• After the 20 minutes unlock the vehicle, and start vehicle with the door open, test radio.

Just curious since you both have a 2014 truck,
- what year of truck did the Evic come from?
- did you test it/have it work before the mileage corrections?

We saw something similar with *some* text info from the 2018 UAx Radios when installed in 13-14, maybe 15 trucks (but not later) that we attributed to the earlier EVICs not being able to fully decide what to do. That being said the turn by turn still worked for most streets.

** Your info may also be worth posting in the Evic cluster upgrade thread to see if anyone else has run into this.

It is a ‘16 cluster. Had only 14,500 miles on it. I needed to reflash to 49,500ish.

I tried the RA4 soft reset and went into engineering. Mode and tried that. SRT came up and eventually went to RAM.

I’ll try the can bus reset to see if that helps, but I’m thinking the cluster is now missing files or something.

Yes it worked before it was flashed to the correct miles and hours, and yes I’ll post it in the evic upgrade thread now too as it doesn’t seem to be a matter of just flashing with alfaobd.

Something quick to check for the EVIC splash issue, what are the 2 "Special Package" options set to in the BCM?

idk, I havent plugged in the OBDlink MX BT yet, and haven't purchased the alfa obd license yet. i'll probably do that later today, or tomorrow morning when I have more time to use it for the first time. maybe I'll have the dealer add the RA4 code first and then reflash. who knows.

If you have the dealer add the RA4 code I don't think it will help but you can try. We have had many RA1 and RA2 trucks upgrade to the RA4 with no issues with the turn by turn so I doubt it's a BCM radio code issue. Depending on how much your dealer charges you to enable codes I would consider purchasing the alpha OBD app and enable the ability to turn the Turn By Turn on and off in the settings menu (which the dealer cannot do)and see if that may help by turning it off with the soft key and then back on even though it's a long shot. I haven't looked for the RA4 code with the tool because I had mine activated a few years ago so I am not sure if it's there but I assume it's in there somewhere. The tool will more than pay for itself with all of the other options you can enable that the dealer cannot plus do diagnostics. If you do decide to have the dealer activate the RA4 code and not buy the tool I recommend activating any other codes that you can think you might want in the future at the same time to save money such as possibly your blinker lights puddle lights ect even if you dont have the mirrors just in case you ever get them.

There is an option in the cluster settings to reset the cluster. Did you happen to try that? Not sure if it will help or not.
