Understand both your positions and by that logic, we should get if from RAM as they created and possess it. The dealer is the gateway to provide it so therefore they are providing the service to retrieve it.
Most, if not all nowadays, are commissioned staff, sell nothing, make nothing. Someone's time, effort and energy are worth something to most.

The parts department personnel are not commissioned. I made sure I had my salesperson go to parts with me to get mine. Took all of 5 minutes.

Not understanding why we don't get these codes on a card when you take delivery of the vehicle.

Every car I've bought that needed a code for the radio came with a credit card type thing with the code on it. Keyfob programming and key cutting codes should be no different, unless their goal is to make money on it (big surprise)

I don't agree with being charged to get a PIN you already own. It's no different than having a debit card to get YOUR money out of the bank. You own the truck and everything that comes with it. Part of the cost of buying that truck helps to operate the dealership. It literally took my parts guy 20 seconds to pull it up and print it out. If you feel like tipping the guy for his time then do it.

I told them I needed the PIN to get a key made. Sounded good to me and the guy at the parts desk wrote it down for me.

You don't really need to say anything. But, I told them I wanted to add remote start and needed the code to program a new key fob. This was after the told me I couldn't add factory remote start because there was no kit listed for vehicles with keyless go.

I have since added factory remote start for the cost of the hood latch and a key fob with the correct buttons. Grand total under $100.

What documents do you need as proof of ownership?

You only need it if you have to access your RFH for some reason. Programming keys, resetting TPMS thresholds, adding remote start etc... Thankfully most of what we are doing with this tool doesn't require the pin number.

I gave them my drivers license and my registration.

I said so 5-10 years from now when I need to program a key fob I have the code...easier to get now versus later.

Interestingly enough, when I went to the parts dept to get my code last year (which they gave me with no issues and no charge, just a simple ownership check) the parts guys told me I should have gotten a sheet with the key codes and PIN when I bought the truck.

And when I asked for my radio code so I would have it when I sold the RA2 radio, they gave it to me over the phone with no ID or ownership check.

Is the code to cut the key a letter followed by 4 digits?

I asked for and got the pin and the key cut code but wasn't sure about the format of the key cut code.

The code for the cuts on the key blade is always a "M" followed by 4 digits 0001 to 2618.

How long does the truck have to "sleep" after a change? I enabled DRL and disable fog light drop off earlier today, but it still has not taken effect or shown up in the radio. 2016 RAM 1500 Bighorn.
