For someone that uses Google maps often I can tell thee its not accurate all of the time. It really ****** me of when it takes me a off road to cut a distance by probably 20 ft. I could have merely gone straight then right , instead it wants me to cut through side roads and such to get to my waypoint. Google maps of you're a heavy user is ********.
U use it often when I'm going to a new place I haven't been before at home on pc. I study the layout of the land, the roads and the way to get there,
I embed it in my brain, so it makes it a little easier for me. lol

I’ve had a few hiccups with google maps as nothing is perfect but either way, it’s still a far cry better than the navigation in our trucks.

The f***** app couldn't even take me to Disney Florida properly. It took me to the back of Disney once a few years back, to an industrial estate.

That's funny right there....perhaps on purpose? Who knows...

Anyway...Google'maps are generally better than any mfgs maps, but the navigation does leave something to be desired. Better apps and/or dedicated nav units are almost universally better at that part.

I don’t even hardly use my nav anymore. Its cumbersome to use unless you stop because it won’t let you use the keyboard if the truck is in motion, even for the passenger. But I will say- now, I don’t know if this will work with the Uconnect app if your not an annual subscriber or not but since I am, the send and go feature works pretty nice for finding your destination on the map in it and then casting it to your nav screen.

The one nice thing about the factory nav that doesn’t work with even the CarPlay, is that your turn by turn directions show up in the HUD in the instrument cluster between the tach and the speedo making it easier to look down rather than the center of the dash.

I keep reading posts that say that the factory navigation sucks, but I have not experienced any problems with it in 116,000 miles.
It works as well as any GPS unit that I've ever owned including Rand McNally and Garmin and my wife's pathetic Tom Tom.

Maybe I just need to give mine more of a chance, especially since I not to long ago figured out the send and go which makes it a lot easier to find and punch in places you wanna go.

Have you ever updated yours? I guess I just never was impressed with mine from the get go when coming back from a trip not long after I got the truck, it had me go way out of my way to get home whereas in Google maps took me the quickest way home.

There’s no better solution than something that’ll give you real time updates, find a fastest location and is free.

The busing model of subscribing for traditional navigation is dead.

When it comes to navigation....Any navigation system is subject to it's own interpretation of what is the shortest way to get where you want to go.

There are many times that I have ignored a routing because I knew it was taking me on a weird side trip, not only in my RAM but also in my big truck with my Garmin and previously with my Rand Mcnally, phone GPS is also known to send you to weird places as well.

I have been pretty impressed overall with my navigation in my Ram and I often wonder if all of the ******** about it is based on anything other than the tendency of people to ***** about just about everything.

One of the reasons I always find myself coming back to this thread is because it's so comical to read some of the things that people cry about.

All very true. It was just that the way it had me going was way out of route that was almost a half hour difference from both my map apps on my phone. But yeah, you’re right, any navigation system is subject to use whatever it thinks is the best route between A and B. Don’t matter in a four-wheeler so much but in a big truck on the other hand, it does. I’ve had my fair share of roads I wasn’t supposed to be on back when I ran over the road. Luckily I wasn’t like the Swifties you see the majority of, windin’ up on Jeep trails. Lol.

Although there was no instructions or guidelines that I know of as criteria for what you don’t like about your ram and whether it has to make sense or not but yeah, some of the things that have been mentioned have been quite comical to say the least.

That could be due to your settings. I had set to avoid toll roads so mine initially had me driving over 50 miles out of my way to avoid a $5 bridge toll, so an hour of time and $9 of gas to save 5:rolleyes:.
After unchecking that option it rerouted me directly to my destination.

I wish it had paddle shifters. With the 8 speed AT it would be awesome. When horsing through the turns or accelerating hard it's almost impossible to get to the up - down shift switches. The other thing great would be a normal shifter in the console with manual shifting built in.

Best shifting setup I ever had both for playing and towing.

I’ll have to double check that but I’m pretty sure toll road routing is checked. But then again, the one time I used it where it was routing me way far outta my way compared to the map apps on my phone, there wasn’t any toll roads for it to route against.

My favorite navigation moment was when Siri took my wife and I through a paid parking lot on Maui to reach our destination.

Luckily the tenant was aware of this navigation quirk and let us out for free. The directions were spot on though!

All this to say, no system is perfect...

Yep. Even the truck-routing Garmin in my Pete isn’t perfect for making sure I stay off roads I can’t go on.

I agree. My biggest dislike is the chrome center console lever.... It is forever blinding the SH*T out of me! View attachment 163000

Plasti-dip. Worked great on the trim ring around the bin on my 2017. Probably need lots of light coats on a high-touch area though.

That's not a Peterbilt anymore. It's a Pedrobilt.

Not this ‘99 379; Well, some dude by the name of Pedro mighta helped put the hood on, or the window cranks on, but it’s birthplace was Denton Texas.

Don't ever pay to activate NAV. It's cheaper and a good plug and play upgrade to just buy a factory NAV radio then turn around and sell your old radio. You then also get an HD radio tuner in the upgrade from RA3 to RA4...

Sent from my HTC U11 using Tapatalk

However, if you do want to pay to activate factory nav instead of installing a new radio, check out navrepair.com. Was cheaper for me than adding it through a dealer and worked great.
