Bungee cord hooked to both sides strung threw handles of the bags? Or 2x4 or 2x6 cut to width against the wheel well.

Any recommendations on managing grocery bags and small items in the bed?
I cut a piece of 2x8 lumber to fit in the slots on sides of bed. Works perfectly for groceries, snow brush, washer fluid jugs, etc. Cheap and easily removed if needed all the bed.

Bed rug here, plus I "appropriated" a couple of grocery store baskets I shop at to hold my stuff in.
Just how flexible are you, Judy?

I bought this webbed bed carrier on Amazon for $13. You need to put some hooks in but it has dividers. I mounted it to the side mount tool boxes by the gate. Groceries and stuff doesn’t fly to the front so it’s an easy fix

I use a 2x6 piece of lumber and slide it in the slots. This gives about 13” between the board and tailgate66750EE8-D9DA-4E19-A66A-836CA9FA636C.jpeg

I put stuff into bag with handles, like the reusable grocery bags, cost $1 each or free. Next, I tie a rope from the cap hold down, and thread it thru the handles, and attach it to the other side cap hold down.
That keeps the bags upright, and near the end of the cap.
I leave the rope in place, so if I want to hold a 4 x 8 sheet of plywood in place, with the tailgate down, or any 8 footers, I just wrap the rope around the stuff and tie it off.

For groceries, typically in seat and floor.
Generally I have an SUV elastic cargo net (something I got with my on clearance for the VW van) that goes between the bed hooks and upper bed rail, to hold stuff to the rear of the bed of the truck. This works behind the cab too.
This is under the cover of my undercover topper.
However a $10 set of ratchet straps from harbor freight tie in larger loads.

As the member who uses a 2 x 8 I also use the wood. In addition I cut matching curve profiles on the lower corners so the board fits to contour and rests on the floor of the bed. Works well.

Since I've switched to the Roll N Lock, I've struggled to find a good way to store items like a bottle jack, tow rope, chocks, straps, etc - I previously I used a tub with a cross bar to keep it in place at the cab end of the bed, but now with the drain tubes the tub can knock the tubes loose if it slides left/right. So I'm looking for a new solution.

I've though about using a strap connecting across the bed at the lower tie off points, but I tried that in the past and it just slips down. Maybe something like a 4x4 block on each side to prevent the tub from sliding into the tubes, plus the bar like i had before.

Re the bar, for general info I thought I was being clever and didn't buy the cheap Reese amazon/auto parts bar that everyone sells for around $20 or so, and went with a much more sturdy Heininger heavy duty one, but reality is that sucker is heavy and unwieldy when reaching over the bedside :(. I might pick up the cheaper/lighter one lol.

I ran my tubes through the front of the bed and kept them high. I have totes and othe stuff under there all the way across with no issues.

Judy, look in the side walls behind the inner fender wells. There are built in "slots" to hold a 2"x6" board. Measure and cut the board with a slight taper ( \__/ ). My '18 2500 8' bed uses a 67" board. I have several rectangular milk crates I use to hold various hitches and fluids. I bungee them forward of the board if I need the room for groceries. This setup works great. And I highly recommend the Extang Trifecta tri-fold fabric soft tonneau cover.
