I will start it off with my Forest River Sonoma 270BH around 7500lbs loaded.

Mine tows my 42' 5th wheel. I do have 4.10 rear, but eventually plan to go 4.88 or 5.13.

Dry weight is about 13.5k but I dont load up much at all when camping. I did however tow it back home to WV from GA fully loaded. It did fine except for fuel economy. But it's a large displacement V8!

Only problem is the truck being so stinking tall, and not being able to get the nose down more on the toyhauler.

I’m looking at buying an Attitude or Genesis the same size as your trailer. How does your truck do with that much load? Are you about 10k empty and 12-13k loaded?

I only have weights for unloaded(10,127), and for a 3 day trip with me and wife(10,673). That’s our standard loadout, plus food and clothes for the two of us. Less than 1 gallon in the fuel station, empty holding tanks, and no toys loaded.

Truck is stock w/4.10s. Did fine, and got .6 mpg less than the same trip last year with an 8400 Lb(but longer) travel trailer. Our first trip with a full load won’t be until October. Football season has started, and I coach 10yr olds.

Here is my 2018 2500 6.4 4.10 truck towing my 9000lb boat and the 2nd pic is my son towing his 2018 Grand Design Imagine 2670MK last week. He towed it from Altoona, PA to Watford City, ND last week. 1700 miles in just over 2 days. His truck is identical to mine other than color. All the same options to a T. He got about 8-8.5 MPG and guessing his camper weighed about 7500-8000lbs loaded and he had an extra 500lbs or so in the truck.

2015 Ram 2500 6.4 with 4.10 gear ratio. 10.000 travel trailer. Avg MPG solid 8. This a high reving motor and pulls strong. In my opinion the only drawback is the shift pattern of the 6 spd tranny. Second gear is a little to high when pulling heavy, shifts too soon. Great truck, I am sure the new 8 speed will help this situation. ecebc793ee310ce0453a490c14102e64.jpg

I tow a TT weighing 8800 loaded with another 1500 in the back of the truck. My 50,000 mile towing mpg averages 9.3 mpg hand calculated. This is over all terrain and conditions. I've seen some 6's and some 11's.

Snapper at least Ram has finally replaced that 6 speed with the excellent 8 speed. I have a 2014 tuned Ecodiesel about 465 TQ with 590,000 miles it with no repairs only 5 fluid changes. Used commercially to tow. Biggest heaviest I have towed is 9,100 pound 3 slide TT about 1,000 miles including over two 6 percent grade ranges and a 9,000 pound boat about 500 miles also over a range with 6 & 7 percent grades. The trans has worked well with the turbo brake and should hold up to towing even heavy behind the 6.4.

Or the 7.0 liter should Ram open it up to stay on par with the new 7.3 Ford & new GM 6.6 with the new 10 speeds.

We just bought this monster last week. About 11,500 empty. It pulled it much better than I expected. Once I re-gear it, it should pull even better. Have the 3.73's now & am putting in 4.56 this winter.

Here you go boys....1989 skyline Layton...30 yrs young this year...pretty good shape for its age...i do my best with the old girl.

Just got back from a weeks camping trip this past weekend. Over 200 miles towing, combination of highway, back roads and up the side of a mountain to get to the CG.

11.7 mph average per the evic which is typically 1-1.5 mpg.high by my hand calculations...so around 10.7 average...not bad at all especially loaded heavy for a weeks camping trip. 8-14-2019 7-35-30 AM.png

We have a 2016 Jayco 28BHBE which weighs about 9300lbs. My truck is a 2016 3500 with 4:10 gears. No problems here. If I was concerned about mpg, I wouldn’t be camping! Love this truck!

Thank you. Mine is a 06' & was really well taken care of. Obviously somebody did a lot of work to keep that one of yours looking so great! You just rarely see ones that old look so great. Hope you enjoy it for years to come.

Thanks! I do my best to keep my stuff well maintained and looking as good as I can for as long as I can. Actually thinking about buying a new one this fall but not 100% sure yet. We're going to the Hershey show in September and there are some deals to be had there.

My boys are both older now and it's basically like having 4 adults in the layton. Its doable but tight especially at bedtime when the couch is slid out for my wife to sleep on and the table is down for me.

But its camping, it's not supposed to be like at home, at least not to me anyway.....lol.
The Layton has a 1 piece aluminum roof also and I just hate the thoughts of giving that up for the junk tpo and rubber roofs of today....but sooner or later I'll have to let her go.....

My youngest son is sentimental like me so he wants me to keep the Layton and I get it....there's been a ton of memories made in that old girl.
