I had a '17 Raptor. It was an ok truck overall. When I first got the truck within 3K miles or so a coolant line popped off because a production line worker forgot to remove a quick attachment. I was on a gravel washboardy road and off it came with lights and chimes in the dash going off. Had to get it towed to the dealer. And last winter I was up at Sun Valley. Temps were something like 7* at night and the door clasps would not shut as they were frozen. There was a TSB for all F-150's for that problem. Another problem I had was the plastic oil pan warped and leaked oil. Ford replaced it....with the same part. I also didn't care for the aluminum body as it wasn't all that straight around the door pulls. The bed felt weak as well but the bedliner and rubber mat helped with that. I would also get a crackling sound upon start up and on occasional acceleration. I've heard that this sound is indicative of cam phaser problems. Have to mention the 10 spd transmission too, it does hunt around a bit.

I got tired of the eco boost engine. The power was well and good but I didn't like the delivery of power. I said to myself when I bought it that the sound wouldn't bother me. However the programmed fake engine sound through the speakers combined with the terrible real engine sound and power delivery had me wanting to get rid of it. Last June the Ram dealer gave me a nice healthy check in trade for a $61K msrp Rebel. The Rebel is a great truck and the incentives on the 1500's last June were just too good to pass up. But ultimately what I wanted all along was a Power Wagon and the incentives on the 2500's in the month of November '19 seemed to be just as good.

So comparing the PW to the Raptor. The Raptor is a play toy whereas the PW seems like it will last forever. The interior design and materials are a few notches better than the Raptor/current F-Series. The paint is much better. The drivetrain feels like a freaking freight train in comparison. I like the 8 spd much better as well. Full size bed, It'll tow more and more closely aligns with how I use a truck.

I've had many Fords as well as Dodge/Rams and in my experience it seems like Mopar has treated me better.
I really appreciate the thorough comparison explanation.

My 2 cents, I had an '18 Raptor and liked the speed and suspension but never could get used to the sound of the Eco boost motor. So far I'm loving my '19 Wagon and with a Magnaflow muffler my old school hot rodder ears love the sound of the Hemi.

Go Carli (I did) and your capacity increases, not decreases). Super soft and great handler, but also now 2K rated.
Nope. Weight police say it’s still what the sticker says lolololol

hehe, I mean the coils are -- not the sticker.
Here in Texas we ride naked to save weight when payload is at question! (Or is that just me) lol though it does make it tough to conceal carry. Thankfully open carry is legal here.

That’s One of the main reasons I’m considering not purchasing another Raptor. I was waiting until the 2020 Raptor was released, hoping the V8 would come back. I apsolutly loved the intoxicating sound of my Raptor 6.2 with my aftermarket exhaust, and the supercharger winding noise was pretty cool too. Seems as if all the Raptor Ecoboost guys are trying to get their tricks to sound like like a V8. I really do like the softer on road ride and the large Pano Roof, I wish Ram would offer the Pano sun roof. I’m sure it’s for off roading reasons.

The pano will surely be available once they put the new cab on the hd’s.

With the new 7.3 liter gasser coming out for the hd’s, makes a guy wonder if they will offer it in the raptor.

Yeah looks like it'll be at least two years before the completely new cab is offered, 2022 MY. It will likely have a pano roof that opens with the glass roof sliding under the fixed pane rather on top like the current 1500. I would also think that Ram will go with a single pane of glass for the back window, with a cut out for a the slider like Ford has done. I also do wonder if they reveal the 7.0 liter in an all new Gen 5 2500/3500 Ram. The new straight six turbo may be what they actually do however.

Gen II Raptor owners will be screaming ****** murder if Ford puts a V8 in the Gen III. Glad I sold it when I did.

Interesting. Didn’t realize Ram was working on a Cab change. I’ll have to Google and research. Might have to wait to purchase any new truck.

I would have to assume it will be the same cab as the half ton. The new ones are currently the same old 10 year old cab with a newish interior.

Which would make a Power Wagon even longer than it is now. Back seat room with my '19 is fine for my use.

I would think the 7.0 on 2500 would have a better chance, since HDs are not rated for MPG, and to compete against the Ford 7.3 gas. I hope the PW keeps the V8, that was my biggest knock on the Raptor it sounded more like a rice burner than a truck. The raptor is fast, but it just ain't right. The PW just makes you smile.

Leaning towards the PW as long as I can find a suspension set up that will greatly reduce the stiff bouncy ride. After talking with some shops that are familiar with these trucks (hard to find), some are relatively certain they can soften the ride close to a Raptor on payment ride, but not as “floaty”.

I’m now also looking a new 3500 with the 6.7 1000 torque. They offer an auto load level suspension. But I like the look of the PW more. Having said that, the interior of the 3500 is very Luxurious Here’s the build. Now just need to find one to test drive. 60D9D570-16C6-444E-BEA4-64A6B9B98913.png

Too deferent Animals there. You are not towing or hauling and not off roading but you want a soft ride and a long bed? I would suggest the Rebel with air suspension, but it is a short bed. folks offered up options with suspension to make the PW work I am about 200 lbs from the perfect weight as I’m carrying 300lbs in gear and my cover. When I haul 500+ in the bed the ride is closer to a 1500 (to me)

Lol I love this guy. Turbo S, not afraid to spend the money. You really don’t seem to need either truck for its capabilities. Guess it’s down to ride quality.

The PW will ride better than the 3500. Also the auto level in the 3500 is for towing not unloaded ride quality.

you are looking at two completely different trucks. Like chevy to ford different. Figure out what truck works best for you (drivetrain/suspension wise) then change the aesthetics to your liking if you need to.
