Thanks, this is great but the download links don't work for me. Am I doing something wrong or have the links expired?

Any chance some car stereo shop could install an OEM camera if I buy it?
This sure seems like a ****-pot of work .
I mean FFS you'd think a back up camera would be simple plug n play into the back of the R2-R3-R4 units without having to wire into some hot wire, ground, splice....etc..

Please note:

- The op of this thread passed away and you can no longer get the custom harness he made (and probably the downloads and pictures he hosted from his site) prior to these kits being available (there is still a lot of good info, pictures, and detail here). But I think this thread should be locked.

For those that want to reference JeepGuy1980's original directions for his custom harnesses (links are down in the OP) :
- JpGuy 2013 DIY_add_Ram_OEM Camera_w_Video.pdf
- JpGuy DIY_Express_v2.pdf

Note : In Post 403 I have gathered info from others on some of the pins and crimpers to recreate the harnesses if anyone decides to finish digging and make them again.

i am new here. i have a 2013 ram 1500 slt. i want to install a back up camera. my tailgate is electric lock. here are some pictures of harness in tailgate and of radio.

@ Silver, repost over in Cptwing's thread, don't need pics of the radio itself, just the connectors. From what I see initially, you don't have the 3 camera wires at the back of the radio or the 6 chassis wires at the i550 Tailgate connector going forward to the cab and likely need the full Ram OEM kit. We can dig a bit more from the other thread. Look for harness p/n's inside the tailgate. My 2013 SLT was missing the main camera wiring from the bottom of the tailgate to the back of the radio. I will repost what I can over in the correct thread.

Head over to cptwing's INSTALLING OEM BACKUP CAM thread.
* * I have added reference's to Post 90

Just Had My 2015 ram 1500 Express
It works fine but Ramey Dodge Princeton WV Gouged me for the part original quote 260.00 plus labor

ended up paying 455.00 for kit (supposed to be a different kit ///) plus 170.00 labor

took two trips first trip they blew out my radio had to get warranty replacement ...and note they spent more time trying to tell me it could not be done after 3 different talks they relented and did the install.

I don't think they wanted to do it for 2 hours labor hence why 2 hours labor 85/hr. then the part got padded for 2 more hours labor.. part should have been around 275.00 .they charged 455.00

But as i said it works perfect wont refer any one to Ramey Motors Princeton WV 24740
I would have rather them be honest a say 4 hour labor and actual cost for part.
They charged me double labor because of them blowing out radio.
But it works on my 2015 ram 1500 express

Anyone have the factory camera wire colors and function? I have an aftermarket radio and had a camera on it but recently picked up a tailgate with camera and lock. I just want to tap into the camera wires with the existing RCA cable going to my radio.

Thanks

Hello everyone. I am in the process of adding the oem backup camera kit to my 2013 slt. Can I program it with the alfaobd kit?

Yes you can. See the docs linked in the AlfaOBD thread OP... Your 2013 won't have all of the extra BCM settings that a 2016+ truck has but the ones you have should get it working.

** AlfaOBD.
(for activating factory features yourself. See docs linked in OP)

Thank you. I’ve tried to enable it and it’s giving me an error on the cust setting that my bcm doesn’t support it.

That's odd. I've enabled it on at least two trucks with the Alfa OBD and didn't have any issues. I did both of them quite a while ago so there have been several updates for the Alfa tool since then. Obviously it shouldn't be an issue since it was a supported option.

I think I wasn’t giving it enough time to read through my bcm. Now when I reverse I get the blue screen and it shows on my options. Tomorrow morning I need to figure out why it’s not powering on. I get the u0264 fault code. So I’m checking the power source tap I did. Thank you for the replies. Much appreciated.

Having similar problem to Jay23

Vehicle info = 2013 ram 1500 tradesman

Hoping for some clarity on enabling my newly installed rear view camera (aftermarket) from Infotainment (with plug n play harness) using Alfaobd. I have enabled three settings under "car configuration change"

-rear view camera = yes
-chmsl camera = yes
-rear camera present = yes

I am still not getting any video on my ra2 display (blue screen). Do I need to enable anything else, if so, what?

Note: I am getting this code after enabling the "rear view camera" = U0264 (lost communication with camera module)

I know the code above is related to the camera, question is, is it configuration or wiering issue? As stated above, i used infotainment's plug and play harness.

I searched on here and looked over the giant Alfaobd guide thread but did not come across info that I can try.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I ended up checking the fuse for the camera and must’ve blown it. Changed the small fuse and it worked. Hopefully this works for you.
