Hey everybody, just wanted to share my experience with my PW! I haven’t ever joined a forum before, so this is a first for me.

I recently bought a 2019 power wagon in October, I have put a total of 13k miles on it, runs like a champ.

My mods are
-35inch Toyo MTs.
-X-pipe
-Dual borla XR1s
-Dual borla resonators
-husky liner floor mats
-K&N filter

My issues have been
-blue smoke on startup when the truck is facing down a hill or embankments and left over night. This did not start until 10k miles.

-If the truck sits a while it will blow out a super small glimpse of fog/smoke, you can barely see it.

-rear camera will sometimes not work when you crank the truck. Very odd. Once restarted works great.

-had a engine tap at 1000 miles and was using a lot of oil. So I changed the oil from factory oil to Pennzoil as recommend, tapped worse and used more oil! At 4000 miles I stopped using the overpriced Pennzoil 0-40. Starting using Castrol 0-40 no more tap and no more oil usage. A lot cheaper too, could careless if it doesn’t meet standard my truck runs better.

-10 mpg to and from work, since it is my commuter vehicle is brutal. But it’s nice to scare a Prius every now and then so it’s all good.

Good story
-I had to drive down an abandoned mining trail in the worst mud and funk known to mankind to pull out a few stuck trucks out what I would consider a quick sand type mud (Z71, Toyota Tundra and ford excursion). I honestly didn’t know if I would make it back to them, which was about a mile of horrible terrain. Not only did I make it, but I pulled two out and dragged the Z71 the entire way out because of his broke transfer case. I’ve never owned such a beast of a truck. After looking back on it, if I would of got stuck I would of had to winch myself to each tree for a mile to make it out. Not sure if it was a such a good idea to go, but no one else would and that’s what friends are for.

Wanted mods
-catch can to decrease this smoke on startup? What the deal with this? Smoking at 10k miles. Evidently it is the norm, never had a truck do this, Mopar is not what it used to be. The last month it hasn’t smoked once but then on a cold morning on a hill, there will be smoke.
-426 striker kit, 5-6yrs from now. Wouldn’t that be cool?

besides that, couldn’t of asked for a better vehicle.

I’ll post a few photos below, I hope you all enjoy this read and I hope it helps people who buy one or have one. By the way, the x-pipe, dual borlas and resonators makes this truck sound mean, no drone, and fast.

Nice setup. Good recovery gear is a must. Consider the tazer to help with throttle response I actually get better MPG with it. Glad you pulled the other guys out. I have had my issues with mopar on my truck but but not really sure anyone is better....besides toyota, that goes for reliability atleast. My tundra was a tank but terrible off road. PW hasnt let me down yet. I gotta get a new battery its 3 years old and slow starting now.

never had the smoke so i havent bothered to look into how the pcv system is setup on these trucks. my toyota car i noticed what seems like a catch can incorporated into the intake plenum. the asians arent all stupid i guess. penzoil 0w40 has worked fine for me but i use the wix xp filter.

10mpg sounds about right if you have lead foot

powerwagon makes perfect sense if your not hauling big campers or 5th wheel trailers. and with a few bucks in upgrades, nothing from gm ford or toyota even holds a candle offroad

The using of oil doesn't sound like a normal thing. I'd get that checked out. The exhaust is beautiful. Not sure if it could be the cause of the smoking etc. I know a new exhaust system will cause that because of the burning off of oil etc. The 6.4 doesn't need a catch can. Search the forum and it'll tell you why.

The blue smoke at start up and oil loss with the recommended oil are very concerning. I would have that checked out immediately. Especially since the truck is under warranty. I wouldn't expect an oil change to fix this problem for good. I've never experienced any smoke at start up. Good luck. Nice exhaust set up!

Mean exhaust! Wow
And welcome to the forum!

I never had smoke or oil loss at 10 000 miles now with Mobil1.

But my dad's 2018 did puff blue smoke. He leaves his PW parked on a incline nose down for weeks at a time.

Keep us posted!

I had it checked out before I put the exhaust system on it, they said it was part off the break in period during that initial 7k miles to use oil. Also the hemi no longer uses oil after I switched over to Castrol.

The smoke is a completely other issue and the dealer told me when they tried to replicate it and they did not see any.

Thanks for the awesome replies, good decision to join a forum.

It`s pretty common for the 6.4 to have lifter tick, puff some blue smoke at start-up and even have oil consumption until broken in, usually around 10k mi but can vary, I know mine did..
Once broken in, the tick, puff and oil usage went away and she`s been all good since.

Need to see these pics, especially the exhaust, but the pics aren't showing up in your post.

Confirmed. I can seem them if I use a web browser but not the app.

Anyways, nice set up! I might have to get that x pipe on mine also. Can you post a sound clip of the exhaust system?
