So it looks like they were correct that your mirrors shouldnt fold?

Is it possible the mirrors were swapped with power folding ones before you bought the truck?

I would think it very odd that you have a window switch with the power fold button, without having power fold mirrors.

Either way Im sure some RAM forum members will fix you right up if you can get the truck to them....the heck with FCA and their dealers!

I wouldn't care what is on the build sheet, you bought it, they have no right to disable a feature.

Here's the build sheet link for your 14ram1500 ...

So it's not exactly the dealers fault... The 13-14, & maybe 2015 TOW mirrors with autodim, supplemental signals (& puddle lights) did not have power fold as an option until later, 2016+ think.

Someone likely swapped out the mirrors at some point, along with the switch & door modules to support power fold. Enabled the codes with AlfaOBD or OBDgenie and went on their way before trading in the truck (it's an LA, California truck per build sheet).
Once the dealer flashes the BCM config for an unrelated recall... It resets the other settings to their factory default config (no power fold) and disabled it. As discussed you can enable it yourself with AlfaOBD or have the dealer flash/add the related power fold sales code ( LER ) so it stays during the next recall/BCM flash

** Note: I'm not sure what the Tow mirror sales code is so that the adjustment switch works correctly when in the up position ?? (If someone knows, let me know) **

This is why I asked if it had tow mirrors because power fold tow mirrors weren't an option until the later years. I just read his original post again and he is claiming he brought the truck new in 2014 with power fold tow mirrors. This is confusing because to the best of my knowledge power fold tow mirrors weren't even an option in 2014 meaning they didn't even make them yet. I honestly have no idea how his truck could even have them. Another thing to note is if he bought the truck in 2014 the Genie and the Alfa tool weren't developed yet for someone to add power fold tow mirrors and enable them themselves so I have no idea how someone could have added them aftermarket. The only way to add codes that weren't available back the was going through W.I.C (Warranty Information Center) and if the dealer wanted to work with you in some cases they would do it. I feel there might be something lost in translation here about when the truck was purchased. In any case the dealer is correct they cannot enable the LER code because its automatically disabled with the tow mirror option no matter what trim level you have. I know he says he purchased the truck new in 14 but it would be interesting to verify 100% that there isn't some confusion. In any case the LER code is in his BCM and is not greyed out when using the Alfa tool. I live close and can enable it for him if he want's.

I have a 2014 Ram truck that I purchased from the dealer new. At time of purchase it had power folding side mirrors which worked perfectly for 5 years...until last fall when a recall notice software update from Chrysler disabled them. I have been back to dealer multiple times to try to figure out the problem, and they finally gave me a number at Chrysler to contact a case manager. Chrysler claims that my truck model was never supposed to have power folding side mirrors included and their update "corrected" the problem. End of story. Neither the dealer or Chrysler will do anything. Besides cursing and throwing the phone, does anyone have any ideas? Reporting to Better Business Bureau is great, but doesn't get my mirrors to work again...

If you haven't gotten this fixed, feel free to send us a PM with your VIN and we can see what is going on.

Thanks, but the truck in question was purchased as NEW from the dealer with 182 dealer miles on it.

Hmm. thats fishy.

So your truck had power fold mirrors 2 years before ram even offered them as an option?

Mind taking a pic of your mirror switch on the inside of your door?

If it had 182 miles on it there is no way it was driven from Texas to California so it was most likely shipped. It did have quite a few miles on it for a new truck but he has stated that bought the truck as new so there should have been no previous owners. I'm at a total loss as to how it could have had power fold tow mirrors as well. It shows the truck was built with tow mirrors but says nothing about power fold as it shouldn't because it wasn't an option. If someone replaced the mirrors somewhere along the way with power fold tow mirrors there would be no way for them to enable the LER code just like the dealer cannot now. If he truly bought the truck with the power fold mirrors which doubt he would have any reason to say he did when he didn't I'm really at a loss as to how he could have had them when they weren't even an option on any Ram truck yet. I guess without more info on the back story of the truck as well as seeing the part#s of his door modules and switches there really won't be any way to know for sure. You can get a pretty good idea of how old the modules are by the last two letters of the part#s by how many times they've been superseded. I would also love to see the part#s on the mirrors themselves.

The OBD Genie used to be the only option to enable the codes other than the dealer possibly doing it. It's expensive and extremely limited. It only enables the mirror codes and nothing else. The Alfa tool is $49 and can enable or disable any code in the BCM and can also be used for diagnostics, programming keys and TPMS.

There may be some confusion. OP bought his truck in CA. You quoted me and asked if mine was a Canadian truck I bought mine new in Texas.

Ahh, that makes more sense.

Still seems weird the option was there before it was really "there".....I think the only thing that will give us a real answer is checking the part numbers of the mirrors, door modules and window switch.

My truck is a 2015 RAM 2500 with OEM power folding TOW mirrors. The dealer just did the software update the radio head unit and GPS while they were rebuilding the tranny. The power folding TOW mirrors still work fine.

my understanding is they only make a few different computers for theses trucks . Depending on what your options are is what determines what they turn on. That is why AlfaOBD can turn things on that may not of been when it was shipped. If the dealer turned it off the capability is still there and I bet can be turned back on. They should do it but if not AlfaOBD is worth the money for the many things it can do Ive found. If you do don't worry about getting the pin number right away. I have done many things with mine and have yet to need the PIN even know I got the number before the AlfaOBD.

OP has a 1/2 Ton. Even a 2020 1/2 ton doesn’t have power folding tow mirrors. Something is really off kilter with this thread.

Just curious... Does your build sheet show the power fold option (the OP's unfortunately doesn't, hence the dealer problems).

http://www.ramtrucks.com/webselfservice/BuildSheetServlet?vin=

copy the above link and then paste into a web browser address bar, add your vin# to the end (no spaces), after the "=" hit Enter.

AS a comparison here's a snip of my 18 1500 build sheet (STD size Laramie power fold mirrors)

my 2015 laramie has power folding mirrors so it was an option at the time. One of two things happened.

1. your truck had a mistake in the option coeds listed
2. prvious owner added the option when the truck did not have them originally

Either way doesnt matter, you have them now and the dealer has no right to disable them so take it all the way to court if you have too.

I added power folding mirrors to my 2014 Ram 1500, had to buy the mirrors, both door modules, the driver door switch, and the ObdGenie plug in device. So if I take my truck, which I purchased new in 02/14, back to the dealer for a recall, there is the possibility that they could disable my power folding mirrors? That would truly **** me off, as I have to pull my mirrors in when I pull into my garage every time. Would I be able to reflash with the ObdGenie and enable them again?
