Hey all been beating my head off the ground. Long story short I have a 2017 1500 and had the VP3 in it. I got my hands on a 2019 4c and put her in. OK so the heater controls work perfectly, the heated seats and all the speakers work. Now what doesn't work is the backup cam , steering wheels controls and carplay. For the latter I know I need the new hub but not going to shell out the money for that if i can't get everything to work. Anyone have any ideas ? also I been through almost all of the 271 pages here and could really not find anything to help me out.

Also I have alfaobd and an obdlink MX and have checked all the settings and everything is still enabled.

Some have reported requiring multiple key cycles before all options are available. You could try resetting the Uconnect by pulling the inline fuse near the brake booster.

Definitely need to know the actual PN off the sticker on the radio (ie 68331635Ah or similar). The Panasonic radios out of a 4th gen 19 classic are different than the ones in a 5th gen 2019 truck (Delphi for some) and are not directly compatible.

As indicated, 4th gen UAQ & UAS radios require an extended period of time to finish a reset and read out the truck configuration from the BCM. Posted this elsewhere ...

NOTE : Battery disconnect or pulling the 20A inline radio fuse near the brake booster for 1-2 mins (Pass Side firewall on Dual Batt. Trucks) ... between these changes can speed up the radio/BCM reset for changes, especially with a UAQ/UAS radio (think 15-30mins or more).

* Radio is not reset until SXM button displays again and/or Backup Cam works if installed)

It has been in for 7 days and I have tried the inline fuse pull for 30 mins and the battery disconnect for 30 mins and it didn’t seem to do anything but here is a pic and thank you for the reply.

Sorry,
That's a 5th gen 2019 'DT' 1500 Delphi radio (68292209Ax)
... instead of a 4th gen 2018/2019 classic DS 1500 radio.
Those problems will not go away unless someone has found a work around (someone else tried that radio back in the thread... Somewhere)
Known good 4th gen ram PNs are in the OP (68331631Ax or 68331635Ax).

Thanks for your time and figures I got the wrong 1. You know of anyone who might want to trade? If not I'm putting it back on ebay and getting my 900 back and looking for the other 1's.

You can try the classified section of this forum for a trade while listing it on eBay?

He has to have 50 or more forum posts before he can list it in the classifieds or the mods will take it down.

Good morning, don't know if this is the right thread so if not please help me out. I have a 2016 Ram 1500 Crew with the small screen radio,5.0 I believe. The truck has the jump seat in the front middle. I want to upgrade to the 8.4 with Nav. How involved is the process. From what I have seen I would have to buy a different center panel, radio, hub and connectors, is this correct? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you are going to upgrade, the best is a UAQ. Next is an RA4. These are premium radios, the sound quality and reception is way better.
I upgraded to an UAQ, to get Apple CarPlay. If this is not important, an RA4 would serve you well.

@Cmacks88 Can you check the part number of your HSM? It is under the drivers seat at the front left corner. If you slide the seat all the way forward, you will be able to read the label. If you have a 68217268xx it should work without the conversion harness.

I checked the HSM out of a 2014 Grand Cherokee Summit in my truck but since it was produced in the second half of the MY14 run, it got things like auto collision braking and cross path detection for the blind spot sensors. As part of that it seems like it got it the newer HSM as well. The HSM part number is 68217268AA and it is confirmed to work with the UAQ. The 2014GCs fall into the same bucket as the RAMs as far as having HSM buttons not populating on UAQ retrofits.

The HSM in my 2015 Laramie is 68217268AB. So it is a newer revision of the same module as the 2014 GC Summit HSM I tested in my truck.

I think the HSM upgrade would work instead of buying the conversion harness and even when buying a new HSM it is still $100 cheaper.

EDIT1: I think I have one more HSM in the house that I can try to see if it works. I can also mail it to someone if they want to test it in their 2013/2014 retrofitted truck to see if it responds properly.

EDIT2: NVM it's a 2017GC HSM that has different vented seat wiring. I will toss into the truck to see if it works with the UAQ(it should). If it checks out for the heated seats and wheel, I can mail it to someone if they want to test it in their '13/'14 UAQ swapped truck. Good chance that it won't work as it looks for an Auto Start / Stop signal and without it, it does not turn the on the heating elements or vents. I will test it though.

EDIT3: The wiring for the 2015 HSM that works with the UAQ radio matches up on the wiring and connections for 2013 and 2014 trucks so it would be a direct swap with no extra modules.

EDIT4: Looking at the part numbers, 68217268AF supersedes the 680x HSMs found in 2013 and 2014 RAMs and the 2014/15 GCs. So now I am about 99% sure a HSM swap would work instead of buying conversion module from Infotainment. It pretty well covers all the gen 4 1500/2500/3500 and the 19/20 classic.

So I was finally able to take a look at the HSM when I got home today and the part number on it is 68217268AA. Is that a good thing?

I got so lost with all your edits, I’m a little confused lol. If I’m understanding right, you’re saying it’s a direct swap with the ‘15 HSM and I wouldn’t need the conversion harness from the place y’all don’t like to talk about.

That is the same HSM as what I pulled from the 2014 GC and it worked with the UAQ. I have a 68217268AB in my 2015 truck, which is just a newer revision. You should be good without the conversion module.

Need to know...

What year is your truck? 1500?

what radio you originally had (Ra2? W/phone & VR buttons on wheel & mics on mirror/headliner?).

What year/model 8.4 radio you plan to use (13-17 Ra3/Ra4 or 18 Ram UAS/UAQ. Actual radio PN?),

Do you have a Backup Camera/Cargo Cam? (Where do they display?)

What parts, if any have you bought? (Actual PNs help)

That’s great news! Thanks for the info.

I’d love to be able to confirm that it actually does work with my truck but the radio I got isn’t wanting to fully come on when I installed it.

All I get is the backlight coming on when I turn the ignition on. I’ve checked the fuse on the passenger side (Ram 2500 location) and currently letting it sit disconnected from the batteries for a little bit. Connections are all good as well.
