Hello everyone, I recently purchase an OEM brake controller and module from an online MOPAR parts store. After I installed it, I used Alpha OBD to turn on the following items:

CustSetMenu2 - trailer selected CSM = yes
CustSetMenu2 - trailer name CSM = yes
CustSetMenu2 - trailer type CSM = yes
P/T Chassis Net - ITBM/HWM Integrated Trailer Brake Module = Enable

The trailer icon showed up on the EVIC, the control module is lit up below the radio and the trailer options show up in the radio, although they won't stay checked when I select them. The other problem is the EVIC says Trailer Brake not connected, even when a trailer is hooked up. I checked all the wiring and nothing looks loose or broken. The only logical thing I can think of is the brake controller is no good.

Has anyone had this issue? Anything I am missing with Alpha? I wanted to ask everyone for suggestions before I purchase another controller.

Thanks in advance,

-Mike

Does the trailer you are connecting to have electric brakes? If so is the battery good? I think I had that issue that the trailer wasn't showing up when my trailer battery was dead.

Yes, the trailer has brakes and the battery is good. There are no issues with the trailer or the wiring, it works perfectly when towed with other vehicles.

I had the "Trailer brake not connected" message. Turned out the contacts in the Trailer plug were corroded.

I get that message even when no trailer is hooked up. It won't even allow me to adjust gain.
The brake controller has to "see" the brake actuator on the trailer otherwise you will get the Trailer brake not connected message. You will always get that message if you access the brake controller menu without a Trailer connected. If the connector contacts are dirty voltage won't pass through, same as if it's unplugged.

If your sure you have all the codes enabled and everything plugged in there is a possibility you may have gotten a bad module. It's uncommon but I have seen it happen. You may want to use the Alfa tool to check for possible DTC codes.

Can you try and connect to the trailer brake module with alpha ?
If not try these steps :

Can you make sure you have the connectors Locked in properly on the trailer brake module you installed .
Also check the fuse box to see if there is a fuse that has blown .
If all these steps check out good can you scan the bcm for new codes etc
Then report back to us with your findings etc
Cheers

If you don't have a trailer that you can readily connect up to
You may want to buy a trailer emulator ( Trailer Wiring Circuit Tester )

It will test every pin in the trailer plug socket on your truck & it fools the Ram computer into recognizing a trailer being connected up

Ran into this at the dealership a few times after a new install. Turns out was given the wrong module by the parts dept. FYI modules for 1500 vs 2500/3500 are different. That could be your issue?

If he has the wrong Module and Connects to the trailer brake module there will be a vehicle line mismatch in there
Let’s see what he reports back with .

Thanks for the suggestion, I've checked every fuse and reconnecting both harnesses that go into the trailer brake controller.

Yes, I'm pretty sure. I gave then my VIN # when ordering it.
If you want to check the dealer's part# of the ITBM, looking on allmoparparts.com it lists:
2013/14 = 82213474AB
2015 = 82214492AB
2016/17/18 = 82215040AC

And if its helpful, it looks like the module itself is part 68092732AF

(the 822... numbers are the whole kit)
