I have a couple of quarts left of RL 5w/30 that I've purchased from Summit Racing last May and took a pic of both.

I found out that the numbers are much better represented if the camera is held at an angle, lol.
lufty? worth a try?

but funny it never happened before, not even in most uoa's? it is what it is, so hpl say anything about those readings? thanks, good to know anyhow

I guess it is time to start asking the labs for an opinion.
When HPL themselves posts the typical additive levels for their oils they include 10 ppm aluminum however it has never shown up on anyones VOAs whether it be from blackstone or oil analyzers. I know @ramffml has done one VOA as has overkill on bitog and both did not show aluminum. But HPL includes aluminum on their own sheets

Ok so I want to do a little 3.6 update. My wife has a 21 Cherokee L we bought brand new. I have always did my own oil. Its had Castrol Edge and a Puraltor Boss filter always. Just like everyone of my previous 7 dodge products. I have never had one issue with this combo. So about a week ago it developed a nice little rattle on cold starts. This was at 19,700 miles. It had roughly 4k on the oil change. Its also about every other oil change used a quart. It was a half quart low this time. So I dumped the oil. It was very clean no signs of oil shavings. I switched to PUP same filter. Quiet as a church mice. I have biotech lubeguard coming tomorrow. I will be adding it to the engine as well. Has anyone had this happen on the newer 3.6s? 5th gens? I also got another nice recall notice that its rear springs may have been installed incorrectly and can come loose...

Texas has 'cold' starts? (ha ha)

I will share this - having worked for Mobil Oil earlier, I used Mobil 1 pretty religiously until I got my 1st Hemi - a 2012 with 5.7L. Around 40,000 miles, it starting ticking, clearly from the block, not the injectors. I was still working then, and researched it. This was my 1st experience with the by now infamous Hemi Tick not being "normal" as FCA told us to make us go away.

I was heavy on BITOG at the time, read all about it, and discovered PUP. Just by changing from Mobil 1 to PUP, the ticking stopped. Not only that, the visible oil consumption stopped. It went from consuming 1/2 quart in 5,000 miles to zero noticebale on the engine dipstick. Combine this with the heavy SOPUS advertising of the time about PUP keeping pistons and rings 37% cleaner than the "leading" synthetic oil *cough*, that did it for me.

I used PUP ever since. I noticed the same phenomenon on my GM 8.1L big block V8 - it used to use 1/2 quart per 3,000 miles in my RV. Since switching to PUP, it stopped using any noticeable oil.

That said, I didn't know PUP didn't have enough Moly to cure (or prevent?) Hemi tick, so I've since changed to Red Line for the Hemi, but use PUP elsewhere.

Great info! I used Mobil 1 in everything until my 12 Hemi. Used it twice and it started ticking. I switched to Castrol Edge and it never came back. Its been great in all of my previous 6 mopars, but this one does not like it at all. It had 3 rounds of Castrol edge and this time its PUP. Hoping for the best here. If I have to go redline I will.

I should add - Mobil seems to have freed up from Exxon enough to fix some of their post-merger cutbacks, I rely on @Travis8352 for updates on what they're up to. But man, they have so many different formulas of Mobil 1 now I can't remember what is what. So I just stick to PUP.

My wife's 2020 Grand Cherokee 3.6 does the same thing, just on PUP/PP. It has a pretty nasty startup rattle on either of those 2 oils, especially in the winter.
Its quiet on cold starts and butter smooth on Amsoil SS. I have always ran the Mopar 3.6 filters on her 2017 and 2020 Grand Cherokee no matter what oil I used. The 2017 was the same, it liked SS and rattled on PP/PUP.
It seems the 3.6 is sensitive to oil, just in different ways than the Hemi is.

I have been running M1 EP 0W20 in the 3.6 in our GC. Just about to turn 32K miles, and other than a very occasional momentary, like less than 1 second, muffled startup clatter, it's been working fine. Been using Wix XP filters. 7K on the current run, doesn't use any(knocking wood).

This is her 3rd 3.6 and all the previous ones have loved Castrol edge and the puralator boss filter. Its going to end up being like my ram. Picky until you figure it out and the last forever lol.

So to update. Changed the oil and added lubeguard. Engine is quiet now. I will see as the miles go on the oil as to if its fixed or not. I spoke with the service manager today and he said dodge says burning 1.5 quarts of oil during a oil cycle is totally normal for a 3.6... Seriously. Also using coolant is normal. 20k miles and Its burning oil .5-1 quart every 5k. It is also using coolant. I had to pick up a gallon today. Its low.

Our Wrangler 3.6 approaching 115,000 miles uses zero oil. It did use a little on break in but after that nothing.

It does use some coolant but it does not burn it, it leaks it. The lower rad hose at the engine side drips when it's cold and I could not get it to stop until I double clamped it.

Also the rads are garbage as they leak at the tank seals between the core and the tank. Take a flashlight and you will probably find some purple/pink crud buildup somewhere along there.
