First post here. Been lurking for a bit.

Getting my '18 1500 sport hemi on Friday. As my buddies say... It's all about smiles per gallon [emoji6]

Originally bought a ecodiesel and when the mess came out about the failure rates came out I changed the order to the hemi.

At the end of the day it's what you're comfortable with. Fuel eco, looks, sound, etc

2013 Ram 1500 SLT CC 4x4 : 41k miles
V6/8spd/3.21

- @ 5200 lb truck
- @ 1000 lb payload approx.
(3 adults & son's college dorm stuff)
- @ 2500 lb 6x12 trailer
(Loaded with 2 roll around tool boxes, air compressor, 10kw genie, kit. table & chairs, bedroom set, lawn mower/equip., 7 ft serving hutch and a few other things)

@ 8700lbs total +/-
- 65-75 mph more of the way, 10.8 mpg avg
(vs 17/22 normally)
- tow/haul mode w/ top gear limited to 6th or 7th depending on conditions.
- Aired the stock 20" SRA's to 42lbs in rear/41lbs front

Yeah, the Pentastar does just fine for my needs and has been very reliable so far.
(She's got some squat on her)

---------- 3/23/18 update ---------

So here's another 'factual' update for those that would consider the v6 Pentastar for mileage & occasional towing.
(v8 is still best for towing but the Pentastar will get the job done when needed)

2013 Ram 1500 SLT CC 4x4 : 47k miles
V6/8spd/3.21

Roanoke VA to Anderson SC. 330 miles, Appalachian mountains, i81, i40, 321, i77, i85.

- @ 5200 lb truck

- @ 400 lb payload approx.
(2 adults 2 days of luggage)
- @ 2100 lb 6x12 Car trailer
- @ 2700 lb 1968 Mustang GT
(5200 lb payload/towing)

@ 10400lbs total +/- ( about 900 lbs over)

- 65-75 mph most of the way (interstate) 13 mpg avg (vs 17/22 normally)

- tow/haul mode w/ top gear limited to 6th & a lot of time in 5th and a few times at 4th going up a grade (Fancy Gap, VA).

Truck showed its capability, and did well for the load. Definitely at max though.

I have two references for Ram 1500 PentaStar gas mileage. A good friends brother has a 2016 QC 4x4 as a work truck. Carries a large bed mounted tool box, gas generator, jacks, etc. for heavy equipment repairs. He says 23-26 MPG on average. A neighbor had a Ram PentaStar for two weeks while her car was in the body shop. She recorded a 28 on a highway trip (about 300 miles one-way, summertime) which hand calculated out to 27.3 MPG for the total trip. I hear the 3.0 VM diesels do better, but the initial cost is a lot higher. If your considering a diesel you need to do a cost-benefit ratio.

I once had a 2004 4.7 2wd with 3.55 rear end, great truck. I now have a 2015 5.7 4x4 with 3.55 gears. I recommend the 5.7. The V6 is a good truck but have more to use is better I think. Even considering I have the 6 speed when using cruise control at 70MPH I’m still hitting 20...sometimes more MPG.

I was given a 2014 Durango Pentastar V6 new back in '14 for work. On one trip, 100 miles round trip, I was at 27mpg or so overall. This isn't hand calculated but I was still impressed. The V6 is a very capable engine and depending on your driving habits can get some great mileage.

Me personally...for my personal vehicles...love the Hemi. After loving my '14 Durango V6 work vehicle so much I bought a '14 Durango R/T with the Hemi. I was a great truck...but now that I'm vacationing with a lady friend...we needed more cab room. The Ram hit the need perfectly. Just personal choice.

I hade a 3.6 great on gas. like driving a car. weight, wind, and or towing you lose power. don't get if you need a truck to work for you
