So i have a 2007 5.7 1500 with oil leaking someone near the top drivers side of my engine. It only leaks under pressure (never leaves a puddle) but leaks enough that i noticed a puddle on top of the engine itself and a lot has been running down to where the exhaust meets the engine and burning off. I've noticed my oil pressure gauge being a little high than normal when driving and will drop lower than normal when idling and more vibration with idling.

I need to try and fix this myself due to dumping my entire emergency fund into having a garage fix my fuel pump and just doing the 150000 mile maintenance.

Hard to tell from the pic but looks to be coming from a part of the crankcase ventilation system. When was the last time you changed the PCV? I'd check all the hoses that are a part of the system as well.

So yeah after searching everywhere i found it was also leaking from the valve cover gasket on that side. Im assuming the PCV being plugged up was what caused the oil on the top of the engine. Ill be replacing both tomorrow and see how that works.

Are you sure it's leaking? Someone didn't miss when filling up the oil on a previous oil change? Either that or a really bad valve cover gasket.

Regular oil changes with 5W20? TBH, the seal on the valve cover looks good, it goes without saying, replace it now that you have taken the cover off. The amber/gold color is what everything should look like after the head has been "seasoned" with engine oil after a while. The black buildup, however, looks like the beginnings of sludge to me. It's not the worst I've seen (google engine sludge images), but I personally would clean it up before it gets bad enough to start congesting oil channels. I'd do the same with the other side as well, just to see what condition it is in as well, but that is just me.
