Your right, I can’t be 100 percent sure what it is until they tear into it. And I don’t know what caused it to fail yet but I will I update the post when I find out. I’m supposed to take it in Tuesday.

I’ve read a lot on here about bad lifters and other noises everyone’s truck makes but to top off a bad summer I end up with a bad lifter in my truck. I thought this issue was addressed by now. I only have 24,500 miles on my truck and it’s been exclusively maintained by the dealer.
I took a video of the cold start this morning and took the truck in. He confirmed that it sounded like a bad lifter and I’m supposed to drop it off next week but they might not have a loaner car for me.
I was hoping to hear from some of you that had this happen and hear what your experience was like during the whole process from the day you heard the noise until the warranty work was completed.
My truck is a 2018 that I bought new so I don’t see how any warranty work could be denied.
Does yours sound like my truck?
Your ticking went away after a couple seconds from start up. Is that just an oil flow problem after sitting?
Does yours sound like my truck?
being common on these hemi engines does not mean it
is this all coincidence? you can keep drinking the dealers kool aid about it being normal. or be proactive yourself. so which one is it: the ticking motor is normal / better, or the non ticking motor is better?
I have a 2018 that I purchased in April 2018. 5.7l hemi. It's has a cold start tap on occasion especially after sitting a few days. Dealer handed me Star case S1209000017. Chrysler claims its air trapped in the MDS lifters. I think it's ********. My truck has only 2300 mi. It started the first week I had it. From my understanding and talking to others, they usually give you the run around and most dealers do nothing until the lifters and cam are destroyed. Owned a GC back in 2005 . Had nothing but problems. I swore off Chrysler and last April I figured I would give it another chance. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, Shame on me. It's been doing it once in a while since delivery. It FCA doesn't recognize and support this problem, I can absolutely state that this is the last Chrysler product I will ever own. It's ashame because I really like the truck. It's good looking and has a nice ride.
WhiteStar, That's exactly what my truck is doing but only on occasion. I changed to synthetic right after break in. I am using a WIX filter. I did discover one thing that seems to help. I don't know if it is ultimately good for the engine but either is the rattle. I rev up to 2500-3000 rpms before shutting off and there is no rattle at startup. Even after 5 days. I do think you are onto something with the gen 5s. Time will tell.
I'll have to try that. Did they expect you to do the Star case S1209000017? If air is trapped in a lifter where there should be oil that sounds like a design defect to me.
