In Apri lof 2018 I talked my fleet manager into getting me a Ram 2500 Tradesman with the 6.4 Hemi. I made the request based on what you could get for the money versus the other brands out there. They have always run Fords but he agreed to my request.

Long story short my 2018 2500 with less than 95K miles now needs a new transmission to the tune of $7500. Needless to say the fleet manager will not be going back to a Ram so I will be getting a new Ford F-250.

I really loved my Ram but $7500 and four recalls really turned him off.

The transmission was out of warranty. The service manager said she did all that she could do to have it covered but to no avail.

Bye Bye Ram.

My 66rfe (same tranny) just finished its second rebuild and I'm at 93K. I'm under the Lifetime warranty so it hasn't really cost me any money but plenty of aggravation.

I get the frustration but recalls happen with any and all vehicles these days. We are statistical outliers with our bad trannys. I've been on this board pretty much daily for 5+ years and can count on one hand the number of tranny failures I've read about. Even with my experience I'll likely buy another Ram (and warranty) when the time comes. As you say, you just get a lot more for your money with Ram.

Why was it out of warranty?? Truck has a 5 year, 100,000 mile powertrain coverage so unless the truck was modified it will be covered.

5/100 went the way of the dodo bird in (or after) 2016. Down to 5/60K.

Since it was fleet it might not qualify for the warranties we're all used to.

Or the user made 1 post to fire us all up and we're just responding to a troll.

I missed that it's a gas truck. Cummins is still 5yr/100,000 mile.

Not looking to fire anybody up. Ive lurked on here for the past couple of years since I got the truck thoroughly enjoying learning more about Ram.

The only reason for the post was to vent frustrations that a less than 2 year old truck needed a new tranny at under 100K and that Ram will no longer be getting any more of my company's business.

Initially I was very disappointed in the 6.4 performance. I learned about Pedal Commander on this site and ordered and installed it. Ever since the PC install it has become my favorite truck that I have ever owned or operated. If anyone is interested in my PC31 let me know. :)

couple tips with your new ford. watch for water leaks in the cab. dont be suprised if the door locks are frozen most every day from november to april. upgrade all the front end components right out of the gate before death wobble sets in and puts you in the ditch. service the vacuum hubs often, as most the time they dont work right. best of luck sir

Thanks for the heads up on these issues. While I hate to not have my Ram any longer I am excited to put the new 7.3 Godzilla motor to the test.

Head over to the superduty forum theres multiple posts about the 10spd tranny being shot or in the shop. One guy hasnt had his for over a month. I was looking at real world reviews for the tremor and was surprised that many people already posting about bad trannys so you might want to hold out a few months until all the kinks are worked out.

I always appreciate honest feedback from truck owners, regardless of the manufacturer. Best of luck with the new 7.3 Ford! I sure as hell wouldn't mind their new 10-speed putting down the power in my Cummins equipped Ram. Heck, their old 6-speed would be a MASSIVE upgrade over the 68rfe and Aisin.

Yep. 2018 6.4's have 5 year 60,000 miles powertrain warranty. I only have just under 14,000 on mine and not a single issue. My son has the same truck and has about 32,000 miles on his now and still doing fine but keeping fingers crossed

Food for thought is that if your definitely getting a Ford, get the 6.2 w the 6 speed transmission...it’s a known reliable transmission the 7.3 10 speed needs a year to get the kinks worked out.

If you really love ram, you might want to opt for a 2019 w the 6.4 and the 8 speed. The zf have been around for quite some time and they are very reliable. They are in everything from a Cherokee to the charger hell cat and those fancy Rolls Royce.

The more you know, the better I feel.

The new 10 speed tranny that ford has, was co-developed in conjunction with GM believe it or not. My camaro has the same GM version of that 10 speed auto and, of course its tuned for a performance car , verses a truck. But no one on the camaro forums are having any issues that I have seen yet anyway.

One thought is that that throttle enhancer you did use, might have by passed the torque limiting built into the trucks drive line. Could that have hastened the timing of the failure?

I wouldn’t think the pedal commander would have caused any issues, but I’m not sure. I have had the pedal commander in my 2015 Ram 3500 for about 3 years now (55,000 miles or so) and I have had no issues. The truck has about 84k on it now.

The pedal commander only changes the responsiveness of the throttle sensor on the gas pedal. It does not increase any power.

I haven't heard of issues with the 10R140, it's based on the rock solid 6R140. Very heavy duty transmission for gas engines and the size of the truck. Makes the 66rfe look cute.

Weighs about 330 lbs dry vs 250lbs for the 66rfe.

I think you will like the new 7.3 'Godzilla' engine.

The F-150 transmission was the one co-developed with GM. 10R80 I believe is the model #.

I've been quoted $4500 for a new transmission here. I dont think I would let a transmission make me start over and buy a new truck unless I was having other major problems.

I am interested in the PC! How much?!

I have been wanting to try one out ever since I bought my truck. Not really looking for a “more power” feeling per-say, just cant stand the way the trans programing is and was hoping that a PC would make it “feel” a little better.
