Well, it looks like the thread I created over at BITOG got closed because supposedly I was playing games and ignoring the advice I was given like, disagreeing with someone is such a frowned upon thing, other there. Oh well. I told that mod over there that although it was BS, I said I was glad he closed it because just asking a simple question about opinions towards RLP 5w20 and Amsoil SS 5w20 turned into another discussion about the lubrication issues with our 5-7’s.

I also think it makes people lazy on checking the level. I know my 2019 with 60k puffs blue on startup every now and then. Synthetics will “burn” more than a conventional oil, and no way I’d let it sit in there for 10k miles

To me change oil often, regardless of what the truck manufacturer says. Oil is cheaper than engine repair
Believe it or not, the owners manual in my old 08 said to change it no more than 6,000 miles or one year but for practically the same engine in my 18, it now says one year or 10,000 miles…..

Wish I knew what the recommended oil was in the old 08 if it was the same crap that came in my 18 when it was new.

I would guess 5-30 Mobil oil for your 08. Mobil was replaced when fca took over.

It was a 5w-20, I just have no idea what the oil was, if it was a full synthetic or semi/blended synthetic. That, and it did say that 5w-30 was acceptable if 5w20 wasn’t readily available.

I just know that the oil change reminder light was very frequent like, one time it came back on after only 2700 miles.

But I’m am glad that Peugeot convinced Fiat to bring back Mobil 1 because instead of going back to Amsoil SS or trying the RP 5w20 once the Schaeffers has run its course this fall, I think I’m gonna go to Mobil 1 Truck and SUV or more than likely the Extended Performance in hopes of the EP having the most moly and other anti-wear additives.

I'd be curious too. Might be able to find a PDF of the 2008 manual online...

Too bad I can’t double-like this post as it was exactly that. I was told several times to read and not type. Basically shut up and listen and was even told what I said earlier from a blowhard mod about playing games and wasting people’s time just because I disagreed with some of the “so-called” advice I was receiving because, OMG, I asked for opinions….lol.

One guy even basically said that weight of the oil doesn’t matter and another one said that conventional oil now days is referred to as synthetic blend or semi-synthetic which, I guess that could be true, I suppose, as I always figured conventional was what it always has been which was straight up petroleum. There was even two members who mildly tried to strike down what I said about how excessive idling plays a role in the cam and lifter issue by saying that out of some guys fleet of cop cars that only one had the issue and I’m like, so what. Just because their department’s obviously been lucky, how does that explain the hundreds of other departments who have issue after issue after issue because of idling?

Whatever, I really only started a membership over there to see what they’d say about the “mystery” fluid that Cub Cadet used in my riding mower’s hydrostatic transaxle. I asked once about a good, reusable OEM air filter and most of the “highly knowledgeable” people over there said that none of them was. I dunno, maybe that’s true too….lol.

Yes and if you ask about anything such as approvals the only answer you get is well does your vehicle require such approvals? If not then why do you care? And if you ask about running a full syn 7500 miles or going 12k with extended performance everyone says well what does your owners manual say about ocis? Id start there or if someone asks if brand A oil is better than brand B and everyone says doesnt matter in your applicatioj both oils will do just fine or that same answer for "whats the difference between these 2 oils"

No worries - a bunch of us were banned by B00B's clique of elites.
They know nothing about applications, only textbook info.

Speaking of which, there was another guy who said synthetic oils didn’t apply to his application because his engine temp gets so high and he said he wasn’t so convinced full synthetic can go extended OCI’s.

I think that pretty much sums it up. I thought I was about to get banned myself when a moderator took the time to PM me shortly after locking my thread….lol.
